Genre: Psychological Thriller

From the internationally bestselling author of The Perfect Girlfriend.

Two women. A dying wish. And a web of lies that will bring their world crashing down.

Nina and Marie were best friends—until Nina was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Before she died, Nina asked Marie to fulfill her final wishes.

But her mistake was in thinking Marie was someone she could trust.

What Nina didn’t know was that Marie always wanted her beautiful life, and that Marie has an agenda of her own. She’ll do anything to get what she wants.

Marie thinks she can keep her promise to her friend’s family on her own terms. But what she doesn’t know is that Nina was hiding explosive secrets of her own…

My Thoughts

I love a good psychological thriller and this one definitely has a lot of potential. I just started it today, so I don’t have any information/thoughts to share, as I write this, but it does look utterly creepy. And, I do enjoy a creepy, thrill-ride ❤️

Genre: General Fiction

Saying ‘I Do’ was meant to be the start of her greatest adventure, but when Maya’s fiancé drops dead just moments before he’s set to kiss the bride, her life is spent spinning out of control.
Now, as Maya travels a path she never expected to take, setting off on the mystery honeymoon her fiancé had planned for them, she finds that there is life after loss, that fate has its own way of helping you heal and that those with the courage to grasp love will never go lonely…

My Thoughts

Have you ever had a book – the cover, the title, the description – that is out of your norm reading, but it almost calls to you insisting on being read? This is such a book for me. I’m not sure what it is about the book that spoke to me before I even cracked a page, but I do know it is a moving read about a middle-aged woman who finally finds love, loses that love in the worst possible way, and then goes on an adventure to learn how to process her grief and open her heart once again. A very moving story without a doubt!

Genre: Epic Feminist Fantasy

In a feminist fantasy epic, a revolutionary spell gives women the ability to control their own fertility—with consequences that rock their patriarchal society to its core.

When a nobleman’s first duty is to produce a male heir, women are treated like possessions and bargaining chips. But as the aftereffects of a world-altering spell ripple out physically and culturally, women at last have a bargaining chip of their own. And two women in particular find themselves at the liberating crossroads of change.

Alys is the widowed mother of two adolescent children, and the disinherited daughter of a king. Her existence has been carefully regulated, but now she discovers a fierce talent not only for politics but also for magic—once deemed solely the domain of men. Meanwhile, in a neighboring kingdom, young Ellin finds herself unexpectedly on the throne after the sudden death of her grandfather the king and everyone else who stood ahead of her in the line of succession. Conventional wisdom holds that she will marry quickly, then quietly surrender the throne to her new husband. Only, Ellin has other ideas.

The tensions building in the two kingdoms grow abruptly worse when a caravan of exiled women and their escort of disgraced soldiers stumble upon a new source of magic in what was once uninhabitable desert. This new and revolutionary magic—which only women can wield—might well tear down what is left of the patriarchy. The men who currently hold power will do anything to retain it. But what force in the world can stand against the courage and resolution of generations of women who have tasted freedom for the very first time?

My Thoughts

Do you see in the picture that this is an actual physical copy of the book? Once upon a time, I resisted ebooks with everything in me but now, it’s a rare treat (and sometimes a frustration for not having all the benefits that I enjoy in an ebook) to read a physical copy of a book. I’m very interested in this story. I have the digital ARC of book 2, but I wanted to read book 1 (this book) first. I love epic fantasy – it’s neck and neck with psychological thrillers for my favorite genre – and this one sounds very intriguing. I’ve read many stories with strong female characters but not one that classified itself as feminist. I’m looking forward to finding out more.

  1. I’ll be curious to see your thoughts on The Last Wife. I finished it not too long ago myself!

  2. The Women’s War sounds so good! I read The Power recently and it just didn’t live up to my expectations, so I’ve been looking for some feminist fiction. I may have to read this one!

  3. Love how diverse your genres are that you are reading! I’m a big fan of switching up my books to keep it interesting. 😀

    1. It helps keep my reviews from getting stale, I think. If I read too much in one genre, I start having trouble finding words to talk about it that don’t feel like exactly the same thing I said of the one before.

      1. I agree!! When books start sounding the same, I definitely read too many of the same genre.
