Book Description

Some people would describe Beattie Bramshaw as a pillar of the community. Many would applaud her numerous successes in the bakery competition at the annual village show. A small number might say, if pushed, that they find her a little on the bossy side. And one or two might just whisper the words ‘interfering’ and ‘busybody’ behind her back. But no one would have her down as a murderer. So why is she being questioned in Dreighton police station after being found in the local allotments, at the dead of night, wielding a kitchen knife just yards away from where local lottery winner, Yvonne Richards, was found stabbed to death? And what does all of this have to do with Doug Sparrow’s prize marrows?Marrow Jam is a comedy crime caper in the spirit of Agatha Raisin. It will have you chuckling all the way through many a cup of tea.

My Thoughts

Okay, as someone from the US, I had never heard of marrow jam and thought that it was referring to bone marrow… ewwww! I have educated myself and now know that Marrow is a squash found in the U.K. – so marrow jam is a jam made from a zucchini-like squash. Much more palatable. Fingers-crossed that the story is as funny as they think it is because I do love a funny mystery 😊

Book Description

A can’t-put-down, creepy thriller about the daughter of a horror film director who’s not afraid of anything–until she gets to Harrow Lake.

Things I know about Harrow Lake:
1.It’s where my father shot his most disturbing slasher film.
2.There’s something not right about this town.

Lola Nox is the daughter of a celebrated horror filmmaker–she thinks nothing can scare her.

But when her father is brutally attacked in their New York apartment, she’s quickly packed off to live with a grandmother she’s never met in Harrow Lake, the eerie town where her father’s most iconic horror movie was shot. The locals are weirdly obsessed with the film that put their town on the map–and there are strange disappearances, which the police seem determined to explain away.

And there’s someone–or something–stalking her every move.

The more Lola discovers about the town, the more terrifying it becomes. Because Lola’s got secrets of her own. And if she can’t find a way out of Harrow Lake, they might just be the death of her.

My Thoughts

Wild, crazy, and mind-blowing are the first words that come to mind when I think about this YA Mystery by Kat Ellis and published by Penguin UK. I may reread it actually to catch the small nuances that I am sure are there and overlooked because I didn’t know how the story ended.

My Thoughts

I have definitely been enjoying this series by Kenneth B. Andersen and can’t wait to get to this third installment in the series.
