Do You Reread a Book Before Starting the Sequel? | #BookBloggerHop #bookish #discussionpost

Which print size do you prefer: small, medium, or large?

I like more of a medium print size, I think. I’ve worn reading glasses since college – so you’d think I’d want a more oversized print. But I like to feel like I made progress with each page I read, which only happens with a smaller print. So, I split the difference and went with a medium print.

Do you go back and reread the previous book before starting the sequel?

I wish I had the time and the attention span to reread a book before I read the sequel. That sounds like one of those ideal situations, in a way. But, on the other hand, I’ve reread very few books because that’s just not something that I really enjoy. I would prefer to just hold off on reading a book that I knew had a sequel rather than rereading.

What’s your print size? And/Or do you reread a book before starting the sequel?

    I am probably the same a medium print is good, I find it hard when it is too small 😊 I don’t re-read either, I wouldn’t have the time either 😂

    I prefer medium print as well. I have been trying to reread more of my favourite books this year but I don’t have the time to reread books every time I pick up a sequel, nor do I particularly want to. I do wish sequels would come with a “previously on” like tv-shows to jog my memory 😄

    I prefer medium or large print as they are easy to read and give lots of space for annotation but if I get the book in huge discount i’m okay with small print. Nope, I don’t reread book before starting sequel. Who has time for that but I do go through my review if I can’t remember a single thing.

    Medium or large print for me, definitely not small! I don’t think I’ve ever gone back to re-read for a sequel, although I did think about it this year when The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell came out, even buying a secondhand copy of the first book. In the end I just dived in and occasionally referred to the first book when I couldn’t remember something or someone in the new book.

    I often reread before reading the sequel especially if it’s the final book of a series. But then I enjoy rereading books whereas I know many people don’t.

    As a rule, I don’t normally reread books. However, I am now as part of a group read of a series I first read over ten years ago, the first ever in the romantic suspense genre and the one that lead me to Goodreads. However, this time I’m doing it on audio and it feels like the first time. I don’t necessarily reread for a sequel but will go back and skim for salient details. A good example is the recent Lisa Jewel release. I had no idea there would be a sequel and the first book had lots of twists and angles. I had to go back and refresh (spent about an hour). Otherwise, I have a group I created to provide character lists for each series I’m reading with a short summary of the plot (two or three sentences) that works perfectly to jog my memory. For example, I’m reading a book in a series where the author went on hiatus for years but my character list was enough of a refresh.

    So! I don’t reread for a sequel as a rule but have methods to jog my memory in preparation for the sequels.

    With the print size, I guess medium? I can also do small. I have one far-sighted eye and one near-sighted, so I don’t use readers or any correction at all. With sequels, I sure wish I had time to reread the previous book – especially if it’s been a while between the releases. But it never happens. Have a good weekend, Tessa!

    I play around with print size for some reason, Tessa. Kindle has so many options and my eyes seem to like different sizes at different times (maybe it’s the light or the amount of whitespace in the text). Who knows? And I never reread books. Like you, it’s something that I don’t particularly enjoy. I’m much more likely to wait for the series to be complete before starting. I’m still waiting for Sanderson to finish his Stormlight series (2010 and still going). 🙂

      Mine have gotten so much worse than they used to be. I used to be able to read without my glasses, I would just get tired easily, but now I can’t see without them.

    I’m all about medium size print too, Tessa. I like that my Kindle allows me to adjust print size for preference.
    And I rarely reread before tackling a sequel. At most, I might skim (if there is a long span between books) but even that is rare on most occasions!

    I’m going to cheat and say medium to large. I can’t read small paperbacks anymore as the print is too difficult for my old eyes. I do read large print books, but don’t need to. Question #2 – Normally, I would say no, but, if it has been a long time since I read the previous book, I may reread it or at least skim to refresh my memory. I read a synopsis on the web when Lisa Jewells newest book came out so I could read it without wondering who was who, and what had happened.

      I think it’s especially hard to remember when you don’t expect a sequel. It’s like your brain just kind of locks that info away.

    I don’t tend to reread but if it’s been a long time since the last book released (or my brain is empty!) then I do a skim!!!

    Great post!

    I haven’t reread a book as of now. Although, I did read We Were Liars a few years ago and think that I’ll probably reread it before I read the prequel Family of Liars. Normally, I wouldn’t be interested in reading a book I’ve already read before, but I really liked that book so I’m kind of looking forward to reading it again.
