This week has been Covid-crazy. North Carolina has hastened the vaccination pace to whirlwind speed. My youngest daughter and husband’s group came up at the beginning of the month and my oldest daughter and my group surprised me by coming up this week. My husband is in a trial group for Novavax and, if he was in the placebo group, he will get the actual vaccination next month – if he wasn’t , then he has already been vaccinated. After some bugging, like only a mom can do, my youngest daughter was able to schedule her first shot at Duke this past Friday. When I tried to schedule my shot (Charlotte is kind of a nightmare when it comes to the vaccination – too many people, too few appointments, and limited places to get it) I first found one at the end of April and the next medical group I tried didn’t have available slots until June. But, I happened upon (as in total luck in timing), the day after my group was opened up, a community event sponsored by the county and a third medical facility, and I am scheduled for my first shot TODAY! My second shot is scheduled for mid-April, so that means…

I AM GOING TO THE BEACH IN MAY! I rented a house with a pool just a few rows from the beach, the cats are figured out care-wise, and I will get to visit my beloved Hilton Head for the first time in too many years (due to Covid and before that, other vacation plans that were once in a lifetime type things – like a cruise around the Iberian Peninsula). I am so excited, especially now that the vaccine thing seems to be working out perfectly timing-wise. Keep your fingers crossed. I know mine are along with my toes and any other body parts I can coax into that position.

I finally tried Superman and Lois – the new Superman show on the CW. It took me this long because, even though I was DVRing it, I was doubtful that yet another show about Superman could possibly be an original story. I mean, how many times have they made a TV show about Superman, not to mention movies? Three pop into my head immediately, which means I would come up with more if I thought long and hard about it.

This new Superman show is original and creative. Lois and Clark have been married for a while and have twin teenage sons – one with crippling anxiety and one a popular athlete. One of the boys exhibits Superman-like powers after moving back to Smallville to take over the Kent family farm. The good news is that it is an original story mixed in with some tried and true canon material. The bad news is the teen boys are so full of angst that they gave me a headache. I think I even yelled at them to “Suck it up, buttercup,” out loud. Some people have much more tolerance for teen angst than I do, though, so this might be as bothersome to them.

To sum it up, I love the creativity, but I dislike angst. Will I keep watching it? Maybe – once the Tylenol has kicked in 😉

Did you read, watch, or do anything fun this week?

  1. Great to hear that you and so many people in your family have or are booked in to be vaccinated, and that you have been able to book a much-needed break to a favourite place.😎 I had my first dose of the vaccine this week too, although my second shot won’t be till June, so will hopefully be just in time for a summer trip to see my mum in France. 🤞

This week I started reading the turn-of-the-century classic A Room With a View by E.M. Forster and continued my comfort re-watch of the BBC’s fantasy drama, Merlin. 🧙‍♂️ When I saw they were doing a new Superman & Lois show, I pretty much thought the same thing, can they not leave things alone and to be honest from your thoughts on the angst, I will not be rushing to watch it once its available here in the UK! 😅

Take care and happy reading in the coming week, Tess 🙂

  2. Yay for having the vaccine! I had my first one as well and it all went fine, Totally get the teenage angst in TV shows it’s so annoying, I think I’d be shouting at the screen too. We’ve been watching the first series of AGENTS of Shield which is good fun, if a little predictable at times.

  3. My husband just got his first dose of the vaccine on Friday! He’s an essential worker so he was able to get it but I am not in any of the eligible categories. So no vaccine for me, yet at least. Hopefully my state speeds the process up so we can both be vaccinated. I hope you enjoy your trip to the beach! Happy reading 🙂

    1. Hopefully it does. I was really surprised by how much NC sped them up. And thank you. I’m really looking forward to being at the ocean again. It’s been way too long.

  4. Yay for getting your first dose! Another yay for going to the beach – perfect for reading all those books you just hauled in, lol. We may plan a trip to HHI this summer also. We haven’t been in a few years and miss it.

  5. A trip to the beach sounds delightful! Happy to hear all your vaccination news! I just finished reading a cozy mystery called A Hex For Danger – it takes place in a small (imaginary) town on the NC coast. Have a great week!

  6. Woo hoo on the shot! Other than a sore arm, I had no side effects from the first one. But I had my second on Saturday, and Sunday was a bust with aches and low fever. Be prepared to do nothing and take a long nap. Then…. off to the beach!!!! Yay.

    1. My arm is definitely sore and fatigue has been an issue but that could be from a combination of things. I can’t wait for the beach 😊!

    1. I felt like I won the lottery which is pretty wild to think that a vaccine would ever mentally be that exciting. Fingers-crossed that you can get it soon. It’s such a relief.
