The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book-related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blogs.

Have you ever been told that you have an excessive number of books? If so, what was your reaction?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I don’t know if the concept of an excessive number of books really computes for me. What’s excessive? I guess if someone’s quality of life was impacted from the number of books they have, like hoarding, that would be excessive but we have plenty of room for us and my books. Ebooks, too, make it possible to have tons of books without them taking up any room other than a Kindle, iPad, or other reader.
But back to the question, I don’t remember anybody saying anything more than, “Wow, you have a lot of books. Do you like to read?” It’s always so hard for me not to answer that question sarcastically.
Have you ever been told that you have an excessive number of books? If so, what was your reaction?

Happy Cinco De Mayo! We’ll be enjoying tacos and nachos tonight for dinner in commemoration of the day. Are you having anything to eat in honor of the day?
I get to help my youngest daughter pick out a new car in the coming weeks. She wants me to go with her to test drive a few cars so she can decide which one she actually wants. Car dealerships cause me a great deal of anxiety. I don’t do well with very aggressive sales people. Luckily, helping her buy the car will fall to my husband, since he’s the one that can firmly hold his ground. I would probably end up paying more than sticker price 😂
We had a weird issue come up with our recessed lights in the kitchen. One night, we flipped the switch to turn them on and nothing happened. So we tried the other switch and still nothing. All of those lights could not have burned out at the same time so we tried flipping the breaker switches. Still no success. We thought we’d have to call an electrician but the next morning, when my husband flipped the switch, they came on again and we haven’t had any issues since. Very strange!

wire must be loose with the lights. It happened with our fan but then again our fan is very old.
As for the question… Yes, I have been told “you have so many books”… mostly by my family as no one in my family is a reader. My mother-in-law even commented “they are so many, can’t you sell them once you’re done reading them” and also “Don’t they all have same stories!”… she thinks I’m spending her son’s money on books and should keep it to few.. God knows what she thinks but she doesn’t like me and me spending time with books and on blog that don’t have monetary return and she obviously thinks I should rather pay attention to my kid. 😪 No wonder I love found family in books.

I can’t imagine what kind of reaction I would have in that situation but I’m thinking you must have a great deal of patience, definitely more than me.

I don’t think so! I sure avoid talking as much as I can during their stay as I fear if I open my mouth it would be terrible and that bottles up lots of energy and emotions that explodes as soon as they leave. My husband knows not to cross me during this time 😂 On serious note it’s complicated and unavoidable stuation that i have bear.

Most people IRL think I have too many books, which is one of reasons why I love the online book community so much! Excessive, though? Nah 😂
PS Your house is obviously haunted, it’s the only explanation 🤷🏼♀️😂

Oh, that apparently was just the beginning of my haunting. My husband decided that the wiring in the switch must be bad and changed the switches. After which both upstairs hall lights started coming on with a single switch when they didn’t before. Now they don’t work at all 🤣😂🤣

I’ve had expressions of surprise but I don’t think that I’ve been told that I have too many. Apart from by my husband when we were moving house and the books kept piling up!!!

Oh, yes! Trying to move all those boxes of books makes it too painfully obvious how many books we have.

Car salesman are awful aren’t they! I hope you don’t have any unpleasant experiences when test driving with your daughter and that she finds the perfect car!

That must be a universal, huh?

My first thought was “I don’t understand the question”. I remember someone seeing my main bookshelf and asking (in disbelief I might add) if I’d really read all those books. I was in shock – had he not read that many books in his life? That was one year’s worth for me.
We had an issue with the fluorescent garage lights – making weird noises, flickering – and I thought an electrician was the next thing on my list. Then they fixed themselves. Maybe both of us just had poltergeists passing through, lol.

I love when people tell me proudly they read like 25 books the year before. And I just smile. I feel bad telling them they are a light weight in comparison 😂🤣😂

I’ve never had anyone tell me I had too many books but lots who seem to be impressed with my collection, both physical and digital. My Mom used to lament over my obsession with books but that’s the extent of it.
I shuddered reading about your planned trip to help your daughter pick out a car. Misogynist attitudes towards women buying cars is real. When I worked for a bank in Virginia, our executive in charge of our indirect car loan segment took over negotiating my deals. He continued to do so until he retired. I loved it!

You know, my daughter realized going into all this car stuff (she also had a body shop give her an estimate for fixing all her little mishaps on her current car) about how women are taken advantage of. She was quick to ask for my husband’s help with all the transaction stuff because she knew as a woman she’d be quoted a higher price or told extra work needed to be done. Now that I’m typing it, it hits me how profoundly sad that is.

And that’s why they have no one to blame but themselves for fostering that culture and having online businesses shrinking their profit margins. True story…I once went into a Cadillac dealership (at hubby’s insistence) to see if they could compete with my Lexus. I asked the guy why I’d want to buy their equivalent model over a Lexus and he turned to me and said, “I don’t know” and walked away. I called my guy in Virginia and he arranged my next Lexus purchase (preowned).

You are so right that women are given a hard time at car dealerships. I hate dealing with them. We bought our last car on Carmax.com and didn’t have the in-person interaction. I loved it.

My daughter and husband tell me I have a lot of books. 😂 I don’t care though. I like what I like!

I’ve had weird situations like you experienced with your lights. It’s unsettling. I’m glad yours are working again.
We’re having chicken enchiladas suizas for dinner. I always make those or pork carnitas on May 5. I also usually do a tres leches cake, but it’s just two of us this year, and neither of us wants to be left with a whole cake, so… just the dinner tonight. Enjoy your tacos!

I think non-readers and casual readers might consider all my books “excessive,” but bibliophiles wouldn’t think twice about the overflow!
Very weird about the kitchen lights. That’s a puzzle for sure.
Happy Cinco de Mayo! 🌮 🙂

There is no such thing as having too many books. My husband would disagree, but then I don’t care. My lights were tripping a few years ago. We had to get an electrician to take a look. Most of our problems were outside electrics the old owner of our house did.

Most of my books are ebooks/audiobooks, so people don’t really comment on that. I dont think there is such a thing as an excessive number of books, unless you don’t have space for them.
Spooky with your kitchen lights, hope they are working now.

I always respond to “Don’t you have enough books” or “Omg, that’s a lot of books” with sarcasm! HAHA. I don’t understand how anyone could have a problem being surrounded by books! haha.
Oooohh, have fun car shopping. Although, it’s my least favorite type of shopping! It’s so stressful and it also causes me a lot of anxiety. My husband is not great at negotiation so I have to be there to do that. I just hate it. I keep putting it off even though we will need a new one soon with the new kiddo. Good luck, my friend!!

I guess every relationship has to have someone who can handle car salesman stress 🤣

There’s no such thing as too many books. And with ereaders, it’s super easy to hide how many books you actually have. Good luck with getting the new car. That’s exciting. Hmm, maybe your lights are haunted? I had a similar thing with my car. I was parked outside while out, and when I started the car to go home, all of the warning lights and everything that could turn on, came on and beeped. It was crazy. The next day it was all back to normal. I’m guessing it’s a sensor that lost its head there for a while. Hope you have a great week.
