April’s Birthstone is Diamond:

Today, I will be finishing Nonna Maria and the Case of the Stolen Necklace and starting Scarlet. Nonna Maria started out a bit difficult for me as the tone is very off-putting. Most cozies tend to invite you into their world, but Carcaterra writes in a very direct and dry manner that it took a while for me to get into the flow of.

And I’m very curious about Scarlet by Genevieve Cogman – a vampire reimagining of the Scarlet Pimpernel story, which I will start later today.

The Last Word by Katy Birchall is an enemy-to-lovers rom-com, which is my favorite trope. There is a bit too much bickering in it, but I enjoyed the look at Journalism and sensationalism. It really takes quite a blunt dig at the media and its practices, and I appreciate the whole pulling back the curtain aspect.

It’s about time for another psychological thriller, and I’m very intrigued by the blurb for No One Needs to Know by Kindsay Cameron. The publisher describes it as Big Little Lies meets Gossip Girl. That comparison just makes my eyebrows raise because I just can’t imagine it. But I’m curious to find out what that looks like.

Quite a mix this week, though no mysteries or thrillers. I did get my first Christmas book by someone who has become one of my favorite authors – Mary Kay Andrews. And I got Mazey Eddings’ first YA romcom/contemporary fiction book. Eddings writes about neurodivergent characters, which I have enjoyed in her adult audience books, so I’m curious how she will write about them in the YA audience format.

    I love that diamond stack, Tessa. You wouldn’t think white or silver covers would be that attractive. I am not familiar with Lorenzo Carcaterra at all. I am finding more authors venturing into cozy mysteries making the genre more diverse, which is a good thing in most cases. It is attracting more people to them. Have a great week, Tessa.

      I thought of you when I was putting this post together because it does seem like a book you’d like. I find it very interesting that it’s set during the French Revolution.

      I know, right? It’s not even summer. I won’t read it til close to publication though which should be closer to Christmas. And Scarlet is very interesting- a vampire story set during the French Revolution. So far it’s holding my attention.
