The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book-related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blogs.

Have you ever read with a book light?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Oh, definitely! It took a while before I got one though. I remember my girls were both young. My husband had already gotten into ebooks and was trying to convince me to give them a try. When he couldn’t, (if I’m remembering correctly) he bought me a light that I could hook onto my book – a book light. I remember that before he did that I would do strange things like go into the bathroom and sit on the floor to read when it was night and he was asleep. That light was revolutionary for me. I could stay in bed and read when my husband was asleep and it didn’t light up the whole bedroom – it was only a focused light on the page. I adored it.
Eventually, I realized the benefits of using ereaders and read those at night instead and still do. I left my book light behind many years ago.
Have you ever read with a book light?

My week was pretty quiet, so I’m going to share with those of you on Instagram how to find out who has unfollowed you on Instagram. You are only allowed to follow 7500 people/accounts – which sounds like a lot but as you gain more and more followers, it really comes up quite fast. Because you have a limit on how many you can follow, many bookstagrammers unfollow people that unfollow them first and ones that never follow back. Some people out there will follow you so they can unfollow you as soon as you follow back. That’s just what some do. Anyway, the apps that tell you who has unfollowed will get you locked out of your account very quickly (it’s a Meta/IG no-no), but there is a way to do it that’s completely okay with Instagram. The video below tells you how. I check mine 2-4 times per month and always have around 10-20 follows to unfollow each time.
How was your week?

I got a hook on light for Christmas but a little someone borrowed it and it has already broken 😂 I recently found dark mode on kindle though which is really handy, hope you have a great week 😊

Oh, no! That’s what I use – dark mode at night

As a child and teenager (long before ereaders and book lights), I used a flashlight for reading so my parents wouldn’t notice that the lights were on and tell me off 😂 These days, I read ebooks or listen to audiobooks in bed.

I didn’t have a flashlight, so I put my night stand lamp under the covers with me and that did not end well. (Apparently the light bulb in that type of situation can burn a whole in the blanket 🫣)

I can’t imagine getting anywhere near 7500 follows on instagram so I don’t think I’m going to need to check mine any time soon 😃

Maybe I should have worded that differently – if you want to know who followed you just to unfollow you once you followed them back – this is how.

Do people do that???? My book insta only gets used every so often so I don’t get that many followers 😀

Oh yes, definitely. It’s a big annoyance.

I’m with Janette ☝️ I don’t think I’ll ever have to worry about who’s unfollowing me on Insta! 😂 glad it’s useful though.

I still use my book light to read physical books at night, it’s also super useful when you’re in hospital and the nurses come around at a set time to turn off the lamps/bedside lights so the other patients aren’t disturbed. Although these days I tend to use my Kindle more at night.

I use my iPad or kindle too.

I can remember having book lights given to me as gifts, but I never used them. I tend to stay up later than hubby anyway, so I’d just read in another room. Thanks for the Instagram info, Tessa – watching the video now.

Well, that didn’t take long – I don’t have an option to download data under data and history.

When you go under settings, you will see a search at the top. I always search for it because I can never find it where it’s supposed to be.

That didn’t work either. Maybe it’s because mine is set up as a business page instead of personal.

That’s weird. Mine was a business page too. Now it’s a creator page but it was available for both. Very strange.

Try going to the three bars at the top and click on “Your Activity” then scroll down to the very bottom.

That did it – thanks, Tessa!

I used to read with a booklight back in the day before my kindle!

My first eReader was a Nook which was probably, like gen1, and it didn’t have backlight, so I got a little book light for it, that hooked onto the cover. I haven’t used it since I got the Paperwhite, but think I still have that lamp somewhere.

I never read with a light. I used to read before I went to sleep, but ended up falling asleep after a few sentences.

I really want to do that follow unfollow thing but I don’t have the option to download data!

I’ve never heard anyone say that before you and Teri. I can never find it on my own, but when I go to settings and type in “download” into the search bar – it pops right up. I’ve used it with both business and creator accounts. Did you look under “Your Activity” from the first window when you go to the three bars at the top?

I found it under My Activity! Thanks!

I’ve never had a book light, but I mostly use an ereader these days. Usually I would occasionally just manually go through my two lists and unfollow some people. But I obviously don’t catch all of them and it’s time consuming. I’m going to try this method.

It’s very quick and easy.

I have a vague recollection of using one many years ago that affixed to my e-reader (before backlighting). When I switched to using my iPad mini, I chose the black background, which didn’t bother my husband.

I’ve seen those. I always used my iPad, so I had the automatic lighting from the time I began with ebooks.

I got my first eReader in 2010 before the iPad was created. You know I ditched it quickly once they were introduced. I got hubby one and salivated over it. Then one day he just drove me to the Apple Store after lunch and said there was no way I could go another day without one. I know own the iPad Pro for heavy duty work and the iPad Air for reading (and back up) only.

I love my iPads too. I got the big one through Verizon so I’d always have internet (especially when we travel) and attached it to an apple keyboard, so it basically acts as my laptop. And then I have an older normal size one that I read on. They are so versatile!

Someone gifted me a booklight over a year ago and I have yet to use it. I probably read 65% Kindle an 35% print, so I really should give it a try. Usually I’m reading in another room, or I just turn the bedroom light on AFTER hubby has fallen asleep LOL!

Lol. Mine would wake back up and be a bit disgruntled then worried. 😂

Yes quite recently actually. While I was in Florida, I was reading several physical books. At night I used my book light so that my friend was able to go to sleep when she wanted and I wouldn’t keep her awake. I bought one for those times when I do away with her, or spend time at her cottage.

I haven’t! How I haven’t got it yet! I still love physical books and as I also have e-reader, I read physical books in daytime while e-books at night. But now I would get this book light.

They are really helpful when you’re reading a physical book.

Booklights were part of my past too, Tessa. Long before I discovered ebooks. I still have it around somewhere. Fortunately, on WP I don’t worry about who follows and unfollows. I just enjoy those who I interact with. I probably should get involved with other platforms but don’t have the time these days. Happy Reading!

I don’t worry about it on WordPress either. The following count is never shown so it doesn’t really matter to anyone. I think on the platforms where people do rude things like follow to unfollow is mostly because those numbers are front and center and they think they look more important if they have way more followers than unfollowers. 🥴. I only keep track because that rudeness has become a pet peeve 😂
