What apps/websites do you use to make your social media posts? Plus, Weekly Updates #BookBloggerHop #bookish #discussionpost

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book-related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blogs.

What apps/websites do you use to make your social media posts?

Well, I don’t use anything special for Twitter. I just have WP post my review on Twitter as it goes live. Now, Instagram is a whole other story. I use a few different apps/websites for that:

  • Canva – I use Canva for any of my digitally created posts, reels, or stories. Some people feel that it is hard to use, but I find it very instinctive, and it has everything that I could need, even shadows to put behind things you want to make look like they are actually in the picture.
  • Blur – I’m toying with using my camera again, but the camera on my iPhone is so good that I tend just to use that so I can instantly see if a photo works or not. One of the first things I do is use an app called Blur to put a blurred edge around my photos. A lot of people seem to find that more appealing 🤷‍♀️
  • VSCO – I heard about the VSCO app from a professional photographer. It’s basically a photo editing app. I use it mostly to apply a filter that gently boosts/enhances the colors in my photo.

What a busy week it’s been. Wednesday was particularly busy at work, plus I had to get my house clean and make a chocolate cheesecake for my youngest daughter’s birthday. Whew! I’m still exhausted and still trying to catch up from Wednesday on EVERYTHING!

My daughter’s birthday, of course, was yesterday. We went out to dinner and had presents and cheesecake, all before she had to go off to work. She is still working for the PD and works the overnight shift, which I would hate, but she loves it. My youngest is not materialistic at all, so giving her lots of things only goes to fill her hamster den of a room. This year I opted for an experience instead. She’s always wanted to use a jet ski, so I rented one for her while we were at the beach. If she ends up wanting one here to take out the lake, she’ll have to buy that herself 🤣

Other than birthday preparations, things have been pretty quiet for me. How was your week?

  • Monday, 4/3/23 – Book Review of The Hotel of Secrets by Diana Biller and The Plus One by Mazey Eddings (both could be classified as RomComs – one historical and one contemporary)
  • Tuesday, 4/4/23 – Book Review of The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth
  • Wednesday, 4/5/23 – WWW Wednesday & Weekly Book Haul
  • Thursday, 4/6/23 – Book Review of The Way Home by Peter S. Beagle (which is a book with two fantasy novellas)
  • Friday, 4/7/23 – Book Blogger Hop and Weekly Updates

  1. I don’t use anything special either for social media 😊 I’m glad your daughter had a nice birthday & the cheesecake sounds delicious, hope you have a great week 💕

  2. Happy birthday to your youngest. Twitter doesn’t need anything but for Instagram, I use Lightroom, pics art (to add bookcover to pic), and also canva when I want to write something on pic.

    1. I’ve used Lightroom. It’s very similar to VSCO. If I start using my actual camera again, I will use Lightroom on those picts.

  3. I don’t use any apps for my posts really so my blogger hop post this week will be quite short. I am looking forward to reading people’s answers though. Maybe I’ll get some ideas

    1. I’ve used Canva for my blog as well as Instagram for a long time. That’s one I’d definitely recommend.

      1. I’ve used it a bit for headings. My poetry challenge header was made on Canva but I haven’t really explored it yet.

  4. I do cheesecake for my daughter because she’s like me, and not really a fan of frosting. I agree with you, I like Canva, though I would use it more if I started back at Instagram. I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. My daughter likes vanilla which doesn’t go over very well with everyone else, so I picked something everyone likes 😂. You have a great weekend too!

  5. Happy birthday to your daughter.

I let WP automatically my blog automatically to Twitter, FB, LinkedIn, and Tumblr. I use Stencil to create any graphics I need. And I occasionally use BufferApp to send tweets when the Twitter button doesn’t work on someone’s site (or isn’t there). I always forget I have Instagram. I need to get back to that.

    Have a great weekend.

    1. Luckily Instagram is very organized with engagement groups and comment pods. Plus I just love taking the photos.

  7. I don’t use any apps to create my posts. Tessa. But I was interested in VSCO since I hadn’t heard of that one before. I do some of my own covers and will take a look at it. Housework and baking exhaust me too! LOL. I tell my husband once or twice a year that we need staff! Glad your daughter had a wonderful birthday. 🙂

  8. I like Canva as well! Besides from that, I don’t use any apps, I try to keep things as simple as possible due to time restrictions.

  9. Happy birthday to your daughter. The only thing I do is use PowerPoint for the review pictures I post on Instagram. Most of the time, on my blog, I just post pictures of the book covers, and those I get from Goodreads. That’s it, nothing special.

  10. I don’t use anything to make social media posts except for MS Paint when I need a coloured background. I’m old school 🙂

  11. I use Shutterstock photos and Shutterstock edit/create for my blog posts a lot. I will check out all your apps though because I think your Instagram posts are awesome.

  13. I use Canva and I’m pretty happy with it for the most part. I still use the free version. And I know all about the “hamster den of a room”. Sounds like your daughter and my oldest son have something in common, lol.

    1. Completely. I cleaned it all out after she moved her bedroom furniture to an apartment on campus a few years ago but she has found more stuff to fill it with since she’s been back.

  14. Happy Belated Birthday to your daughter, Tessa. What a great idea for her gift. I to not use any special apps or programs for social media. I use WP for my blog and it posts automatically to twitter. That’s it, I’m pretty boring. Have a wonderful week ahead.

    1. You read so many books, I don’t know where you’d find the time for more social media. 😊
