Are books a must-have in your home? And Weekly Updates #BookBloggerHop #bookish #discussionpost

My ankle is still healing. It’s a lot better than it was. I only feel pain with very specific movements and even then it’s pretty tolerable or quick to go away. I will be in the splint at least through April and maybe into May.

Since property value has increased by almost 100% in the county I live in, the gov’t of course decided they should be reevaluating the value of everyone’s home for tax purposes every 4 years instead of every 8 years as they had been doing. We should see a pretty steep raise in our property tax when the next bill comes out. 😔

Everything else has been pretty quiet. I’m sharing my office space and everyone is surviving so far. I’m sure they’ve realized I’m barely there in the totality of their week.

And a little side note: Readers on IG have been going crazy for indie writers and books on KU – so I’ve been taking every opportunity to recommend those of you with published books, especially if they are on KU. 😁

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Are books a must-have in your home?

(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Ummm…YES!!! I have a severe dust-mite allergy and still I have a house full of books. There are literally books in every room. I’ve even given away boxes and boxes of books and I still have 6 bookcases full of books and stacks in rooms where there’s not bookshelves.

  1. Glad to hear your ankle is on the mend but sorry about the property tax! Books are 100% a must-have in my home. They’re in my reading nook, kitchen and living room.

    1. They definitely are, especially when the rise in prices is taken advantage of. If prices of homes comes down the length between assessments will probably magically increase. 🫢

  2. I’m glad to hear you ankle is doing much better 😘. Books are a must-have even when you don’t have any space left 😂. If I could physically get myself up the stairs on my own, I would 100% turn the spare/storage room into my very own library.

  3. I missed your injury. I’m so sorry. Sounds like a bad one. I hope you’re better soon.

    Also sorry about the taxes.

So nice of you to recommend authors in your community. We’re always grateful for support.

I have a severe dust mite allergy, too, and I also have books in every room. I can’t imagine a home without them.

    Have a great weekend, Tessa.

    1. A lot of IG people love romances, so I’ve really been mentioning your romances a lot ❤️.

At the end of February, I was looking at something when I was approaching a set of outside stairs and misjudged where the first step down was. I saved myself from falling by grabbing the rail but I twisted my ankle so bad that I tore a ligament. Not fun!

      1. That’s sounds horrible. But it also sounds like you saved yourself far worse injuries. Ligaments take forever to heal. I’m so sorry.

Is it bad that I forget I have Instagram and don’t post there for months at a time? (Probably years.) Still, I appreciate the support, Tessa.

    1. That is very cool! In our last house, I had made a library in my office area but where we live now, there’s just not enough wall space. We have so many windows!

    1. All those FairyLoot books! And or you, the Illumicrate too. But they are all so beautiful 😍

  4. Here too property rates and taxes are increased. It took us 10 years to buy our own house. Before rates were good and affordable but didn’t have enough savings for that and now the house will take more than half of our savings.

Before I started reading, I only had study books in the house but now I want lots of bookshelves.

  5. Books are definitely a must in my home. I’d have a bookshelf in every room if I could get away with it. Glad the ankle is on the mend. And as a side note, all my books are on KU.

    1. I did note that your books are on KU and might have mentioned that on IG posts quite often 😊. I truly enjoyed the Colony series.

  6. That is very unfortunate about your taxes and I’m sorry. I’m sure it will be hitting us soon bc it seems like it’s just bleeding everywhere. Also- YES!! Books are essential!! haha. They are all over the place. In my own library (instead of the dining room), my son’s room, and now the baby’s room! Books for everyone!!

    1. I filled the girls rooms with books too. They knew mommy could never say no to buying a new book for them when we were out and about. 😂

      1. It’s the best!! haha. I’ve heard people say no to books in the store and I could never. haha. I had to take Ollie to the doc with me last week. Usually, one of the admins watches him (they love each other) but she was sick. So it was he and I, while I was getting my exam and stuff. He had his tablet but we had to wait a while and he did SO good. I asked him where he would like to go for a treat. Library! I didn’t want to go there bc since I worked there, we are always there for a while talking to everyone. So, he picked the bookstore and got some books! Haha! Super proud. 😀

        1. Mine loved going to the library too. We had two we could choose from because we live in a highly populated county – the biggest in the state – and we would go for story time, just to look at books, and to play on the computer. It was such a huge part of their early years.

          1. We love story time!! Although, now that he’s in preschool, we can only go in the summer! So many great programs for kiddos. They have a tablet center at ours and I have to fight him to get off sometimes. haha

  7. So glad to hear you’re getting better. Our property taxes keep going up and up as well. I don’t have many books in my house at all. My daughter has a bunch of books in her bookcase, but I got rid of a lot of books during my last move and I just read ebooks and audiobooks now.

    1. That’s what I should do, for my allergies, but somehow I never do. I do only keep a few in my bedroom though because of it.

  8. Hope your ankle keeps getting better and better every day. I have books everywhere in my house. There are books in every room, except the bathrooms. I am planning to donate some books soon. Can’t really keep them all.
