I have been looking forward to delving into Immortality: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz ever since St. Martin’s Press sent me the widget. If you look at the cover, you may remember that I did a review of another book called Anatomy: A Love Story that had a cover with a heart on it, but upon further inspection, you can see that it’s a woman in a dress – just like this one (brain vs. woman in a dress). I read a little bit yesterday, but I can’t wait to read more today.

Hazel Sinnett is alone and half-convinced the events of the year before―the immortality, Beecham’s vial―were a figment of her imagination. She doesn’t even know if Jack is alive or dead. All she can really do now is treat patients and maintain Hawthornden Castle as it starts to decay around her. When saving a life leads to her arrest, Hazel seems doomed to rot in prison until a message intervenes: Hazel has been specifically requested to be the personal physician of Princess Charlotte, the sickly granddaughter of King George III. Soon Hazel is dragged into the glamor and romance of a court where everyone has something to hide, especially the enigmatic, brilliant members of a social club known as the Companions to the Death. As Hazel’s work entangles her more and more with the British court, she realizes that her own future as a surgeon isn’t the only thing at stake for her. Malicious forces are at work in the monarchy, and Hazel may be the only one capable of setting things right.

I was reading Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman for a blog tour when I tore the ligament in my ankle a few weeks ago. Needless to say, the pain and pain meds made reading very slow going – nearly impossible. So for the first time ever, I had to ask Rachel of Rachel’s Random Resources for another option because I just wasn’t going to be able to read it, much less write a review for it by my scheduled date. So she changed my date to the 27th, and now I have finished it. And ended up loving it.

Not an expert, not even close, not in any of this. But nobody will try harder than me to make you happy. Sally is a classic romantic and Harry is a classic cynic, but when a drunken bet leads the new flatmates to (badly) recreate ‘the lift’ from Dirty Dancing, and the video goes viral (#EpicRomcomReenactmentFailure), they both realise there’s potential financial benefit in blundering their way through the romcom lexicon for their suddenly vast social media following. Now, as Harry and Sally bring major romcom moments to new life – including recreating that classic diner scene – their faking it turns to making…out and suddenly they’re living a real life romcom of their own! But like all the greatest love stories, the road to happily ever after is paved with unexpected challenges for this hero and heroine…

Mr. And Mrs. Witch by Gwenda Bond just sounds like pure entertainment to me, much like Not Your Exes Hexes by April Asher, which I read a few weeks ago. I have discovered a real love for the witchy rom-com. Fingers-crossed, this one doesn’t disappoint.

  • Pages: 352 pages

Savannah Wilde is a witch, a very powerful one—an identity that only her fellow witches know. Following a whirlwind romance that surprised herself and her family, Savvy is all set to marry the love of her life. But she isn’t the only one with a secret that needs to be kept, even from her soon-to-be husband. Griffin Carter is a top agent for a clandestine organization that, well, used to primarily hunt witches, but now mainly tries to shut down supernatural threats their own way. He can’t wait to lay his eyes on the woman he’s about to spend the rest of his life with. As Savvy walks down the aisle to Griffin, the wedding quickly goes from blessed day to shit show when their true identities are revealed. To say there’s bad blood between their factions is putting it mildly. Savvy and Griffin are tasked to take the other out, but when they discover a secret that could take down both of their agencies, they realize the only way to survive is to team up. With assassins hot on their trail, will Savvy and Griffin make it out alive to try again at ‘I do’?

What are you reading? Do you love it?

  1. I remember Anatomy and put it on my TBR at that time, but haven’t read it yet. I need to read Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman and am glad you loved it. I am looking forward to it.

  2. Looks like you’re keeping busy! I love the covers for Anatomy and Immortality and had to add them to my TBR.. I’m just not sure if I’ll enjoy the ‘love story’ part.
That title though, ‘Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner,’ had me laughing so hard.
Thanks for sharing and Happy reading!

    1. The love story is really a very small part of the plot. I think it’s more about her love of science/medicine at a time when women were not permitted to study it.

      1. Now that’s something I can get behind. I don’t mind romance, sometimes it’s what a good story needs to be great, I just don’t like when it takes over.
        Thank you for clarifying! ❤️

    1. I bought a physical copy of Anatomy even though I had read the ARC just because of the cool cover. They are probably my favorite covers ever because of the cleverness. I also have Immortality physical copy on preorder 😊

      1. I am going to order Immortality for the same reason. haha. I am still so shocked that I did not notice that. Thanks for pointing that out because I don’t know that I ever would have! lol

        1. It took me forever to see it in Anatomy – then when I was taking a picture for IG, I saw it. I guess I look at covers differently when I do the pictures so I imagine that’s what made it stand out. It’s mind-blowing!
