Book Mail: Two Noteworthy Novels Coming Out 21 February 2023

Thank you for the free books @BerkleyPub #berkleypartner #berkley

The following books were sent to me by Berkley Publishers last week, and I just thought they looked so good that I just had to share them with you!

The Woman With The Cure by Lynn Cullen

“Huge applause… women have always been in science—despite those who would pretend otherwise.” –Bonnie Garmus, New York Times bestselling author of Lessons in Chemistry

She gave up everything — and changed the world.

A riveting novel based on the true story of the woman who stopped a pandemic, from the bestselling author of Mrs. Poe.

In 1940s and ’50s America, polio is as dreaded as the atomic bomb. No one’s life is untouched by this disease that kills or paralyzes its victims, particularly children. Outbreaks of the virus across the country regularly put American cities in lockdown. Some of the world’s best minds are engaged in the race to find a vaccine. The man who succeeds will be a god.

But Dorothy Horstmann is not focused on beating her colleagues to the vaccine. She just wants the world to have a cure. Applying the same determination that lifted her from a humble background as the daughter of immigrants, to becoming a doctor –often the only woman in the room–she hunts down the monster where it lurks: in the blood.

This discovery of hers, and an error by a competitor, catapults her closest colleague to a lead in the race. When his chance to win comes on a worldwide scale, she is asked to sink or validate his vaccine—and to decide what is forgivable, and how much should be sacrificed, in pursuit of the cure.

Burner: A Gray Man Novel by Mark Greaney

Court Gentry is caught between the Russian mafia and the CIA in this latest electrifying thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling Gray Man series.

When you kick over a rock, you never know what’s going to crawl out.

Alex Velesky is about to discover that the hard way. He’s stolen records from the Swiss bank that employs him, thinking that he’ll uncover a criminal conspiracy. But he soon finds that he’s tapped into the mother lode of corruption. Before he knows it, he’s being hunted by everyone from the Russian mafia to the CIA.

Court Gentry and his erstwhile lover, Zoya Zakharova, find themselves on opposites poles when it comes to Velesky. They both want him but for different reasons.

That’s a problem for tomorrow. Today they need to keep him and themselves alive. Right now, it’s not looking good.

  1. I just finished Woman with the Cure and I really liked it. I really enjoyed the writing, I though it was very straightforward, and of course the story is excellent too.

    1. Berkley is getting better with bloggers but I think they are still very liberal with their denials. Funny story – I got invited into Berkeley’s influencer program (an application type thing) and they still deny me books on NetGalley then turn around and send me the widget. 🤦🏻‍♀️. I think the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand’s doing. 😂
