February’s Birthstone is:
The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.
What was your favorite genre to read as a child or teen? Do you still read that genre, or do you read something else now?

I read contemporary and mystery when I was in elementary school and then Judy Blume. Judy Blume led to romance which I read well into my twenties. I also read some sci-fi (think Star Wars books) and classics – like Jane Austen, the Brontes, Little Woman, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, which led to a binge of books with Names as the title. I also went on a mythology binge after I saw Xanadu 😂. Those are the ones that standout in my memory.
What was your favorite genre as a child or teen?

Great book stack 😊 I used to read a mixture of mystery, young adult horror and YA paranormal romance. My tastes have changed but only I think to include older material.

Gorgeous covers! I don’t remember what I read a lot of as a child although When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit and the simplified version of a Tale of Two Cities were favourites. Then as a teen I read romances, possibly Sweet Valley High. Looks like I’m still reading memoirs, historical fiction and romance as an adult! 😂

I loved reading to YA horror and even picked up the occasional adult horror when I was younger. Always remember getting told off by one particular school librarian, as she didn’t approve of me reading so much horror 😂. To this day, I still love horror. Although much harder to find a truely good horror. Think she would be really pleased that I read a bit of everything 🤣

I love purple book covers. What a great collection.
As a child, I loved school stories and mysteries, mainly Enid Blyton. Then I discovered Narnia and LOTR and my love of fantasy was born.

I can’t remember my first fantasy book. I found that odd when looking back.

I had two: fantasy (Raggedy Ann & Andy) & mystery (Nancy Drew). I burned out on fantasy a few years ago but can’t seem to ever get weary of mysteries. I started reading really young and the fantasy fascination made me a dreamer for many, many years. I’ve always like the analytical aspect of mysteries, trying to assemble the clues and form a deduction. Funny…that’s what I ended up doing as a career!

Nancy Drew was the best, wasn’t she? My mother pulled out all her old Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden books for me when I was a kid.

I read mostly mysteries and science fiction when I was a child. Now I read mostly romance and contemporary fiction.

My first book I read, was Katie, and What Katie did next. I loved all the Secret Seven, Famous Five, and The Twins of St Claire. Most of my books are female led, and whatever the genre that has never changed.

Fantasy was always a favourite, and then teen romance books before I returned to fantasy and added in science fiction.

I read a lot more fantasy when I was younger, and paranormal romance. I still read a lot of romance, but rarely pick up fantasy any more for some reason.

I’m the opposite. I don’t read much romance anymore even though I read mostly romance during my teen years.

I can remember reading The Amityville Horror, the Flowers in the Attic series, Star Wars, Nancy Drew, anything with vampires. So I really haven’t changed, lol.

Totally forgot about VC Andrews. I devoured her books when I was a teen. And hey you read Star Wars books too – we were in a very small group of females doing that, I think 😂

I didn’t read English books or novels until I was an adult but I used to read a magazine for children that published different moral stories, folktales, and facts in regional languages. I still love to read folktales.

That’s very cool! I think it’s amazing that you read books in English now. I couldn’t imagine reading books in another language and reviewing them.

Nice progression you’ve got there. I read more widely as a kid than I do now (pretty much all mystery all the time now).

It has been quite a progression. I often forget that I didn’t always read mystery/thrillers and fantasy.
