The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Do you prefer to read in a quiet or noisy setting?
(Submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer))

I prefer to read in a quiet setting, but I am very good at tuning out noise when I need to. So I can honestly read in either setting.

Do you prefer to read in a quiet or noisy setting?

I do prefer to read in the quiet but with a nearly turning 10 year old that is usually impossible, so like you I have learnt to block the noise out 😂

It’s a mom survival trait 😂

Quiet, definitely! I make the hubby wear headphones if he wants to watch TV while I’m reading 😂 White noise or instrumental music is fine, it’s talking or singing that tends to break my concentration.

Hubby must be a good one to agree to the headphones! I can totally read through tv noise. It’s my superpower 😊

I don’t like it to be too quiet so I generally read with some background music on.

I can go either way.

I wish I could tune out noise when I’m reading. I’m too nosey if someone’s talking nearby so invariably have to take headphones with me if I want to concentrate! 😂

I get caught up in others conversations sometimes but only if they are referencing something I know or if they are speaking in a different language oddly.

Either is fine for me too.

I definitely prefer a quiet setting. Because of my ADD, I am easily distracted, so if there is a lot going on, I will be checking out what is happening.

That definitely would be an issue!

I can read anywhere. I’m able to tune out any kind of noise – hubby will verify this, lol.

Quiet for me as well! Too much noise distracts me.

It’s nice to enjoy a book in peace and quiet 😊

Strangely, it depends on the kind of thing I am reading, non-fiction is easier to read with sound in the background. Fiction I like to read in a quiet more serene environment.

I could see that.

I like some light ambient noise in the background when I read. I will put on a Netflix fire or a YouTube video of coffee shop noise while reading sometimes just for the sound.

I’m the same as you, Tessa. I can read anywhere, and I think I prefer just some light noise in the background. Music or TV.

I often have the tv on as background noise, especially if I’m home alone.

Tuning out is just so easy when I like a book.

I’m the opposite. I can’t read in quiet need background noise. Reading in the quiet makes me sleepy 🙈

I do have that problem sometimes too

I always prefer a quiet setting because I’m very distractible! 😂 I can read in noisy settings and sometimes I can read a lot but when I return to a quieter place to continue reading, I realise that everything I’ve read in the noisy place has flown out my head, lol.

That’s how I am with audio books!

I prefer quiet. I can read in the noisy room but I read slower in comparison.

Like you, I can manage reading in either environment. I actually like noise and can compartmentalize easily (unless it’s somebody chewing food with their mouth open😏

My husband and daughter can’t handle that either 😂
