This week was pretty normal. Neither good nor bad – just a week.

I don’t go through reading slumps but I do go through rebellious periods when I just want to ditch the whole ARC and review system and just do whatever I want to do when I want to do it. It has been one of those weeks. I’m rebellious by nature, so that’s really no surprise, and I go through that ever once in a while. What sets it off? Who knows? The way the moon is aligned, boredom, FOMO? Your guess is as good as mine. I’m just anxiously waiting for it to pass.

Next week is going to be interesting. Tuesday, I’m having my four front top teeth all capped at the same time. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while now but money and courage have always gotten the better of me. I was born with teeth that naturally have a very thin enamel and because of that, the pulp in the middle of the tooth can somewhat be seen through the enamel – giving my teeth a yellowish appearance that no amount of brushing or bleaching can fix. So, I’ve never had a true white sparkly smile – ever. It’s really not that obvious because my teeth are on the small side, but still I’ve always wanted a white sparkly smile and now I’m going to get it. Keep your fingers crossed for me because I definitely have every worst case scenario playing through my head right now.

So, that was my week – how was yours?

There’s something in my neighbour’s attic. Something steeped in shadows. A secret to everyone. Seen by no one… He stands sometimes at the window. Hidden in the corner of my eye. I know he’s there. I know he’s watching. Now my son is dead. My neighbour is not. And I’m going to find out why.
Mia Thermopolis knows just what to do in a crisis: Rule. During the Covid-19 pandemic, a section of the diary of Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia fell into the hands of Meg Cabot, the Princess’s royal biographer. As reported in media outlets such as Entertainment Weekly, The Mary Sue, Refinery 29, Bustle, and more, from March until June of 2020, sixteen entries of the princess’s diary were leaked onto Ms. Cabot’s blog, to the delight of over a million fans. In these entries, titled The Coronavirus Princess Diaries, the princess recorded her most heartfelt emotions while dealing with her husband’s quarantine after exposure to the virus; her personal (and political) battles while imposing health restrictions on her small European nation; life during lockdown (even in as idyllic a location as a palace on the Riviera); and of course, dealing with her demanding royal family, especially her grandmother. Since then, readers have been clamoring for more chapters of Mia’s coronavirus diary . . . and here they are at last: The Quarantine Princess Diaries include not only the previously released entries (now edited and updated with new content), but dozens more entirely original, never-before-seen entries, including the princess’s worries over her husband’s possible affair with an ex (now a world-renowned geneticist); a showdown between Mia and Grandmère over the latter’s intended nuptials; the eventual development and distribution of a groundbreaking intranasal vaccine for every citizen in Genovia; and, as always, a royally happy ending. After all we’ve been through, what could be more comforting for any lover of royal romance than snuggling up with a brand new installment of the diary of Mia Thermopolis, the princess who started it all?
What starts out as a fake wedding date turns into something these childhood enemies never expected in The Plus One, a sparkling romantic comedy by Mazey Eddings. She’s not looking to fix him. She’s looking to love him, if he’ll let her in. Some facts are indisputable. The sun rises in the east, sets in the west. Gravity exits. Indira doesn’t like Jude. Jude doesn’t like Indira. But what happens when these childhood enemies find the only thing they can rely on is each other? On paper, Indira has everything together. An amazing job, a boyfriend, and a car. What more could a late twenty-something ask for? But when she walks in on her boyfriend in an amorous embrace with a stranger, that perfect on paper image goes up in flames. Jude has nothing together. A doctor that’s spent the last three years traveling the world to treat emergencies and humanitarian crises, a quick trip home for his best friend’s wedding has him struggling to readjust. Thrust into an elaborate (and ridiculously drawn out) wedding event that’s stressing Jude beyond belief and has Indira seeing her ex and his new girlfriend far more frequently than any human should endure, the duo strike a bargain to be each other’s fake dates to this wedding from hell. The only problem is, their forced proximity and fake displays of affection are starting to feel a bit…real, and both are left grappling with the idea that a situation that couldn’t be worse, is made a little better with the other around.
Two destined rivals fall desperately in love—but the fate of medieval Europe hangs in the balance. “A pair of thrones between us, and my heart clutched like a rosary within his hands . . .” Twelfth-century Europe. Newly crowned King Philip of France is determined to restore his nation to its former empire and bring glory to his name. But when his greatest enemy, King Henry of England, threatens to end his reign before it can even begin, Philip is forced to make a precarious alliance with Henry’s volatile son—risking both his throne, and his heart. Richard, Duke of Aquitaine, never thought he would be king. But when an unexpected tragedy makes him heir to England’s royal seat, he finally has an opportunity to overthrow the father he despises. At first, Philip is a useful tool in his quest for vengeance . . . until passion and politics collide, and Richard begins to question whether the crown is worth the cost. When Philip and Richard find themselves staring down an impending war, they must choose between their desire for each other and their grand ambitions. Will their love prevail, if it calls to them from across the battlefield? Teeming with royal intrigue and betrayal, this epic romance reimagines two real-life kings ensnared by an impossible choice: Follow their hearts, or earn their place in history.

Our Saturday night family movie this week was Thor: Love and Thunder, which is now on Disney+. (Thank you, Teri for alerting me 😊)

    1. I can’t wait for them to sparkle😁. Soon I will be able to have more reading flexibility. I really just need to get though this month.

  1. Don’t fight your rebellion, enjoy it! And good luck with the caps, I’m sure you’ll be fine 😘

  2. Congrats on getting a new smile! I also want to ditch the schedule sometimes. I think that’s normal. Solomon’s Crown looks really good. Have a great week!

    1. I’ve wanted a new smile since I was a teenager. I can’t wait and hope that it is everything I wanted. Solomon’s Crown looks very interesting. I think it’s going to be one of those books I either love or hate.

    1. You’ll have to tell me how many times you raised an eyebrow over things said or done on House of Dragon. Every week they seem to go a bit further than the last week in that regard.

      1. I have a firm fave in the guard who looks like Prince Caspian from Narnia (can’t remember his name!) but I know somehow they’ll break my heart with that one 🤣

  3. I often feel like ditching my reading list – it’s one reason that I’m trying not to request so many ARCs. When I feel like that, I often binge read old favourites. Hope your teeth capping goes well. I sympathise with wanting a white smile as my teeth have always been a creamy colour. I’m sure they will look brilliant – in every sense of the word.

    1. Exactly – more of a cream color – that’s the perfect description. And, yes, that’s why I am not requesting ARCs. I’ll make a decision about widgets that come through email based on the book description and maybe author but I’ve been good about minimal requesting. Once I get through this month things will get better.

  4. I often go back and forth and wonder if I should just stop and do something else, and then wonder what else would I do if I didn’t blog! Best wishes to you and your new teeth! I have some of the same books, but I’m hoping to get the Mazey Eddings book as I enjoyed her last two.

    1. I couldn’t imagine not blogging either. I’m surprised they didn’t send you the widget for the Eddings book. Maybe, they will soon! 🤞

  5. I’m definitely a mood read. I always have great intentions on what I’m going to read… and then rebel against my own list and pick something else!

    Good luck with the dentist!

  6. Thor Love and Thunder might watch that. There is nothing on the television at the moment. Disney also has The only Murder in the Building. It is great and I would recommend you watch it. This time next week you will have a pearly white smile.

  7. I totally get your ambivalence about reading to blog or reading just for private enjoyment – and those ARCs! I love getting them and they always sound so good, but then I get a stack from the library and in my wealth of books, they often get pushed back. I’m trying to look at publish dates when I request and not stack too many in any one month. But….sometimes I just want to read a nice long series or something…… I guess as long as you’re reading, it’s all good! Happy reading (and blogging if you feel like it). Hope you love your new smile!

    1. That’s my conundrum – reading what I want versus what the schedule dictates. I think I’m more rebelling against feeling like I have to get an ARC read near the publication date when maybe I’d prefer to read it later or just read something else now.

  8. I hope you get over your mood soon. The book haul looks good. I want to read The Princess Diaries series.

    Have a great week ahead!

  9. well I’m not sure what happened there, lol!
I’m trying to cut back on requesting arcs so that I don’t feel so pressurised. If too many bloggers are talking up books on netgalley I do have “slips”, but at the moment my schedule is quite light. The only trouble is, despite having a LOT of unread books on my kindle, I can’t decide what to read!
I’m on a library book streak at the moment and am hoping to keep it up for a little while longer.

    1. I magically made it go away 🪄. I cut way back on my requesting and so after this month, it’ll be much better. In December. most of the month I’ll be able to read what I want to read even!!! That’s my Christmas gift to myself.

  10. Good luck with your dental procedure! That’s so exciting about your smile. 🙂 I’ve always wanted to get braces because my bottom teeth are very jagged and crowded together. It makes flossing hard. Someday I’ll pull the plug.

I was never rebellious growing up, but as an adult, I’m very rebellious. My older sister said I’m going through as a 40+ year old what most people go through in their teens, lol. I hope your rebellious bout subsides soon so you can get back to reading and reviewing.

    1. We did enjoy it. I said it looked like a parody before we watched it and I wasn’t too sure about that but we ended up having lots of laughs. My husband was a big fan of the screaming goats. 🤣

  13. Oh, my goodness, I know that rebellious feeling! Give into it for just one book and I guarantee it will be freeing. I did that recently and though I had to double time some reading, it was well worth it. I’m reinvigorated.

    Have a wonderful week, Tessa💜
