The town of Moon Ridge was founded 400 years ago and everyone born and raised there knows the legend of the young woman who perished at the stroke of twelve that very same night, losing the life she was set to embark on with her dearest love. This year at Moon Ridge High, a group of friends known as The Coven will weave art, science, and magic during a masquerade ball unlike any other. Onny, True, and Ash believe everything is in alignment to bring them the affection, acceptance, and healing that can only come from romance—with a little help from Onny’s grandmother’s love potion.

But nothing is as simple as it first seems. And as midnight approaches, The Coven learn that it will take more than a spell to recognize those who offer their love and to embrace all the magic that follows.

What’s it about (in a nutshell):

Three Kisses One Midnight is the magically sweet story of three teens, who call themselves The Coven, finding love during a town special event.

Initial Expectations (before beginning the book):

I love Roshani Chokshi’s books, and since she is one of the authors of this book, I immediately have a good impression. I am wondering about the three authors and one story aspect of it. I don’t think I’ve ever read a single story written by so many people before. The cover is beautiful – a perfect combination of fall, love, and magic.

Actual Reading Experience:

I love that this story is so sweet and innocent, and it made it a pleasure to read, putting a smile on my face from start to finish. It’s perfect for all age groups, which is a rare find in YA fiction and a real gem.

It manages to tell three different types of romance: instalove, unrequited love, and enemies to lovers. This was a nice touch as none of the stories are the same, and it has something for everyone.

I also loved how perfect the story is for the fall season. After reading it, I immediately wanted to carve a pumpkin and roast some marshmallows for smores. The season just permeates every aspect of the three tales.

Characters:

Onny’s full name is Apollonia Diamante, so of course, she goes by Onny for short. She embraces magic, crystals, and a belief in the supernatural. She’s a fun character with a lot of spunk and a lot of smarts.

True is a girl who only believes in what she can see, and science is the only real thing. But she has a weakness for Dr. Pepper, so tapping into that makes Onny able to convince True to do something she wouldn’t otherwise do.

Ash is True’s cousin and the third member of The Coven. He is an artist through and through and spends hours creating and making the world beautiful in his own quiet, unassuming way.

Narration & Pacing:

The narration is third-person, with each of the three main characters having a long chapter dedicated to their individual stories, a long Epigraph to introduce the story, and a final short Epilogue to conclude it all. This pacing is medium to relatively quick in some parts.

Setting:

Moon Ridge is a town founded 400 years ago, and it’s wrapped in a history full of magic and lore. Love is bestowed on its inhabitants each year as the Lady of Moon Ridge walks among the people. It’s the perfect backdrop for this story about magic and love. 

To Read or Not to Read:

This story is perfect for the younger YA reader and everybody looking for a book that will lead them happily into Autumn. I loved the innocence and magic!
