It was pretty quiet this week – finally. I had to return to the eye Dr. because I had an appointment the week before that went all kinds of weird, so he had me come back to finish. This return appointment went normal though. My distance vision is still 20/20 but my close up vision got a bit worse – that didn’t surprise me. I use to be able to figure out things like menu’s without my glasses. I can’t do that anymore. Everything in print is a blur until I put my glasses on.

We were supposed to be having our HVAC system replaced on Monday, but that has been delayed because the unit we need is backordered. Our current system still works but we know we are on borrowed time. Hopefully we will be able to get it replaced before our current one does give up.

This week I’m going to be busy with appointments but everything else should be pretty quiet again. 🤞

How was your week?

Random House sent me a few more widgets this week both from Ballantine and Macmillan (St. Martin’s Press) sent me a physical copy of Hester by Laurie Lico Albanese along with a tote bag that matches the cover – I’m very excited about this The Scarlet Letter retelling through Hester Prynne’s perspective. My very first stab at fiction was a short story based on The Scarlet Letter from Hester Prynne’s perspective. My teacher read it to the whole class, he loved it so much. That was the first time I realized that maybe I could write what I loved to read ❤️

The thrilling second novel of an all-new fantasy series from the legendary author behind the Shannara saga, about a human girl adapting to her place in a magical world she’s only recently discovered. It’s been two years since Auris escaped from the sinister Goblin prison and learned of her heritage as one of the Fae. She is now happily partnered with her Fae lover Harrow and deeply bonded with her new family. All seems to be going perfectly–until, surprisingly, the Goblin attacks begin again. Someone, it seems, has not forgotten that Auris exists and seems determined to retrieve her…but who? And why? As Auris begins to dig deeper into the mystery, old friends and new enemies appear, and Auris begins to realize that her still-shrouded past must contain the answers she needs. But even she does not suspect how far down the rabbit hole she is about to go until Harrow is taken and an impossible ransom demand is issued. Then, with two new companions at her side, Auris must attempt to unlock the remaining secrets of her past. For if she cannot, she will never see Harrow alive again.
In this series debut, a mysterious bookshop visitor dies under murderous circumstances and compels the Christie sisters and their cat, Agatha, to call on all they’ve learned about solving mysteries from their favorite novelist. Ellie Christie is thrilled to begin a new chapter. She’s recently returned to her tiny Colorado hometown to run her family’s historic bookshop with her elder sister, Meg, and their friendly cat, Agatha. Perched in a Swiss-style hamlet accessible by ski gondola and a twisty mountain road, the Book Chalet is a famed bibliophile destination known for its maze of shelves and relaxing reading lounge with cozy fireside seats and panoramic views. At least, until trouble blows in with a wintry whiteout. A man is found dead on the gondola, and a rockslide throws the town into lockdown—no one in, no one out. He was a mysterious stranger who visited the bookshop. At the time, his only blunders were disrupting a book club and leaving behind a first-edition Agatha Christie novel, written under a pseudonym. However, once revealed, the man’s identity shocks the town. Many residents knew of him. Quite a few had reason to want him dead. Others hid secrets. The police gather suspects, but when they narrow in on the sisters’ close friends, the Christies have to act. Although the only Agatha in their family tree is their cat, Ellie and Meg know a lot about mysteries, and they’re not about to let the situation snowball out of control. The Christie sisters must summon their inner Miss Marple and trek through a blizzard of clues before the killer turns the page to their final chapter.

We enjoyed The Grey Man on Netflix last night. Chris Evans as the villain was very different. If you like Action Adventure flicks, you will love this one! It’s apparently a book series too by Mark Greaney.

  3. It is good to have a quiet week, I was on my first week of the school holidays, so spent time with my daughter and granddaughter. I’m going on my second virtual sky dive tomorrow. I’ve watched all the Stranger Things episodes.

  4. Having suffered through a mere few days of 100+F temperatures without AC I have my fingers crossed that yours keeps working until the replacement is ready!
I am also a little jealous of the Terry Brooks arc you have. I’m tempted to buy e-books by some of my favourites authors from the 90s, a lot of the fantasy released these days just doesn’t seem to hit the mark.

    1. They should. The blood test always seems to bring up new and exciting overages or underages but my fingers are crossed that there is nothing serious. 🤞

  9. We watched The Gray Man this weekend too! I thought Ryan Gosling was brilliant, but wasn’t convinced by Chris Evans sadly! 😂 Hope your appointments go well this week and your HVAC keeps going until it can be sorted out!

  10. Hope that A/C unit comes in soon. I’d sure hate to be without it given how hot and humid it’s been. We also watched The Gray Man. I enjoyed it, but hubby gave it a thumbs down. It was fun seeing Evans in a villain role – he had some amusing moments.
