This week just flew by. It was really a blur, and I have no idea why or even what I was doing while it sped by. I even got way behind with Twitter, so thank you all who shared any of my posts last week.

My girls were home last weekend for Easter. We spent the day as a family doing Easter related things and had a nice dinner. Everyone loved their baskets, even though we are all adults. Your never too old for an Easter basket!

This week, I think I mostly read and wrote. I have so much spring cleaning stuff to do and things related to graduation weekend and our vacation later in May. I think I have most of the organizational pieces in place. Fingers-crossed! May is going to be a busy month in my house!

How was your week?

Her marriage is rocky; her son isn’t fitting in at his new school, the prestigious Woolf Academy; and their tiny apartment in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood can barely contain her family. As she struggles to make ends meet on her junior bank teller wages, Rose finds that life as the only mom in a name tag and uniform at the Woolf’s shiny school gates isn’t easy. Not so for those in the elite and secretive Circle—a tight-knit group of wealthy mothers, led by the charismatic and glamorous Amala Kaur—who rule the school. When the mysterious death of one of the Circle’s members creates a vacancy, Rose dares to hope she could fill it and transform her life. Amala’s shocking decision to invite Rose into her clique provokes resentment among the Circle, especially when her fortunes, self-esteem, and status start to soar. But Rose soon realizes the true price of being on the inside. Far from being a dream come true, the Circle proves her worst nightmare. Unlike the woman she replaced, can Rose escape with her life? Taut, complex, and compulsively readable, Such a Good Mother is a razor-sharp take on the myth of having it all.

#1 New York Times bestselling thriller writer Kathy Reichs returns with her twenty-first novel of suspense featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan who, after receiving a box containing a human eyeball, uncovers a series of gruesome killings eerily reenacting the most shocking of her prior cases. Winter has come to North Carolina and, with it, a drop in crime. Freed from a heavy work schedule, Tempe Brennan is content to dote on her daughter Katy, finally returned to civilian life from the army. But when mother and daughter meet at Tempe’s place one night, they find a box on the back porch. Inside: a very fresh human eyeball. GPS coordinates etched into the eyeball lead to a Benedictine monastery where an equally macabre discovery awaits. Soon after, Tempe examines a mummified corpse in a state park, and her anxiety deepens. There seems to be no pattern to the subsequent killings uncovered, except that each mimics in some way a homicide that a younger Tempe had been called in to analyze. Who or what is targeting her, and why? Helping Tempe search for answers is detective Erskine “Skinny” Slidell, retired but still volunteering with the CMPD cold case unit—and still displaying his gallows humor. Also pulled into the mystery: Andrew Ryan, Tempe’s Montreal-based beau, now working as a private detective. Could this elaborately staged skein of mayhem be the prelude to a twist that is even more shocking? Tempe is at a loss to establish the motive for what is going on…and then her daughter disappears. At its core, Cold, Cold Bones is a novel of revenge—one in which revisiting the past may prove the only way to unravel the present.

She was the face that launched a thousand ships, The fierce beauty at the heart of Olympus, And she was never ours to claim. *A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Helen of Troy, Achilles, and Patroclus that’s as sinful as it is sweet.* In Olympus, you either have the power to rule…or you are ruled. Achilles Kallis may have been born with nothing, but as a child he vowed he would claw his way into the poisonous city’s inner circle. Now that a coveted role has opened to anyone with the strength to claim it, he and his partner, Patroclus Fotos, plan to compete and double their odds of winning. Neither expect infamous beauty Helen Kasios to be part of the prize…or for the complicated fire that burns the moment she looks their way. Zeus may have decided Helen is his to give to away, but she has her own plans. She enters into the competition as a middle finger to the meddling Thirteen rulers, effectively vying for her own hand in marriage. Unfortunately, there are those who would rather see her dead than lead the city. The only people she can trust are the ones she can’t keep her hands off-Achilles and Patroclus. But can she really believe they have her best interests at heart when every stolen kiss is a battlefield? “Deliciously inventive…Red-hot.” -Publishers Weekly STARRED for Neon Gods. “I get shivers just thinking of their interactions. A captivating novel about two sisters fighting for survival in Dark Ages Britain that casts a thrilling spell of magic and myth. “An eloquent and heartachingly poignant story of sisterhood.”—Lucy Holland, author of Sistersong. The year is 500 AD. Sisters Isla and Blue live in the shadows of the Ghost City, the abandoned ruins of the once-glorious mile-wide Roman settlement Londinium on the bank of the River Thames. But the small island they call home is also a place of exile for Isla, Blue, and their father, a legendary blacksmith accused of using dark magic to make his firetongue swords—formidable blades that cannot be broken—and cast out from the community. When he dies suddenly, the sisters find themselves facing enslavement by the local warlord and his cruel, power-hungry son. Their only option is to escape to the Ghost City, where they discover an underworld of rebel women living secretly amid the ruins. But if Isla and Blue are to survive the men who hunt them, and protect their new community, they will need to use all their skill and ingenuity—as well as the magic of their foremothers—to fight back. With an intimate yet cinematic scope, Dark Earth re-creates an ancient world steeped in myth and folklore, and introduces us to unforgettable women who come to vibrant life on the page. A heart-in-mouth adventure full of moments of tenderness, this is a beautiful, profound novel about oppression and power that puts a female perspective on a historical period dominated by men’s stories.

Did you get any good books this week?

Somehow, we forgot to watch Picard for over a month, so we binge watched all of the episodes we missed this week. It’s been a very interesting season with Q and Dr. Soong, plus a young Guinan.

  2. So pleased you enjoyed a lovely Easter with the family, even time has flown by, and wow that is a great haul of new books, I particularly like the sound of Dark Earth! ☺ I enjoyed a chilled and quiet week, where I finished reading one book, which was the Christian non-fiction Pray For Us by Meg Hunter-Kilmer and watched Netflix’s newest true-crime limited series, Conversations With A Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes (2022).

Take care, happy reading and good luck with all those spring cleaning tasks! 😃

    1. The Mediterranean is so beautiful. I haven’t been to Greece but I’ve been to Spain many times and just love it. One day I wouldn’t mind going to Greece 😍

  4. Sounds like you had a great Easter. It has been a short week at work, with the bank holiday Monday. Although I think after those four days I wouldn’t have minded more. We spent the day getting my granddaughter’s bedroom ready. Her first real bed to sleep in. A proper little girl’s room. Where have the years gone?

  5. Hi Tessa! We all need to take a break every now and then and blogging isn’t everything. Glad to hear you had a good time with your family.

Once again, thanks so much for the codes for the scrollbar! I love it!!!! I’ve only used it once, but will definitely use it in future.

A new Kathy Reich! I haven’t read one in ages and I used to love her books. I’ve enjoyed the TV series as well.

    Have a good week Tessa!

  7. Happy you had a great Easter and that you have some great things coming up. I went to watch a show this week, first time since Covid. We saw The Lost Kingdom with Sandra Bullock. It was hilarious and there were only 8 of us in the whole theatre. Have a great week, Tessa.

    1. I’ve seen the promos for that one. Glad it was as funny as the promos make it look. Theaters here have been pretty light too the few times we’ve gone.

  8. I love that you still celebrate Easter the way you do with your adult children. My family shamed me because I still wanted to participate in the baskets and Easter egg hunts. I hope you have a fantastic week and that you’re able to enjoy it more than you did this past week.

  9. Glad you had such a wonderful Easter with family, Tessa. You sure got lots of widgets last week! I’d love to read Ashfall, but it’s Harper Collins – they never approve me for anything, but I still request in the hopes the tides with shift, lol.

    1. I’ve done a lot with some of their smaller imprints like One More Chapter. I’m not sure if that’s why I get approved 🤷🏻‍♀️. It’s always hard to tell reasoning.

  10. Glad you and your family enjoyed Easter (no, never too old for a basket😏). Nice book selection, too! I just got Hidden Pictures on audio and it’s up next. But, you’ve got three that are seriously tempting me…The Body Falls, Mystic Winds and Such a Good Mother. Yum💜💜💜
