Sunday Post 55 | Booster Jab Time

I got my booster shot on Friday. It’s funny – I got the Moderna vaccine which has loads more antibodies than any other vaccine out there. Because of this, they recommended only a half dose for the booster. The only reaction I had to the original two shots was arm pain and feeling overwhelmingly tired for a day. My response to the half dose, though, was a bit more intense. I have the arm pain – fun, fun – and at almost precisely the 24-hour mark, I felt horribly sick and realized I had a low-grade fever. It didn’t last long but having somewhat more of a reaction to a half dose totally surprised me.

Do you see this picture? Yes, my deck is finally finished. Hubby did an excellent job! Now we just need to figure out how to get the deck furniture back up on the 2nd story deck with no direct stair access. But that’s a problem for another day.

I splurged this year and bought a Harry Potter advent calendar from William Sonoma filled with the candies found in the movies – like the jelly beans with quite interesting flavors. I set the advent calendar near the lemon tree, which, yes, still has its one green lemon. We had noticed small ant-like creatures in some of the newly opened flowers on the tree, but we thought we had taken care of them. When I opened day one on the calendar, I found out we hadn’t. Day one is in the top left corner of the calendar and, ironically enough, contains a Fizzing Whizbee lemon-flavored candy. The ants somehow found their way into the packaging, and we’re enjoying my day one candy. Luckily they only got in that one candy, so I was able to take care of the ants and save the rest of the calendar.

Thank you to everyone who visited and commented on Lily’s review yesterday. She’s been so excited to do this, and I’m sure the comments made her day.❤️

How do you resist excellent-sounding books when the publisher sends you an email telling you how great the book is and sends you a widget? Especially when they tell you they are giving you an exclusive first chance to read said wonderful book. And look at these covers! Serious cover love going on for me 😍😍😍

A darkly enchanting fantasy debut about a morally gray witch, a cursed prince, and a prophecy that ignites their fate-twisted destinies—perfect for fans of The Cruel Prince and Serpent & Dove. Violet is a prophet and a liar, influencing the royal court with her cleverly phrased—and not always true—divinations. Honesty is for suckers, like the oh-so-not charming Prince Cyrus, who plans to strip Violet of her official role once he’s crowned at the end of the summer—unless Violet does something about it. But when the king asks her to falsely prophesy Cyrus’s love story for an upcoming ball, Violet awakens a dreaded curse, one that will end in either damnation or salvation for the kingdom—all depending on the prince’s choice of future bride. Violet faces her own choice: Seize an opportunity to gain control of her own destiny, no matter the cost, or give in to the ill-fated attraction that’s growing between her and Cyrus. Violet’s wits may protect her in the cutthroat court, but they can’t change her fate. And as the boundary between hatred and love grows ever thinner with the prince, Violet must untangle a wicked web of deceit in order to save herself and the kingdom—or doom them all.
An ancient city plagued by dragons. Eighteen-year-old Zarela Zalvidar is a talented flamenco dancer and daughter of the most famous Dragonador in Hispalia. People come for miles to see him fight in their arena, which will one day be hers. But disaster strikes during one celebratory show, and in the carnage, Zarela’s life changes in an instant. A flamenco dancer determined to save her ancestral home. Facing punishment from the Dragon Guild, Zarela must keep the arena—her ancestral home and inheritance—safe from their greedy hands. She has no choice but to train to become a Dragonador. When the infuriatingly handsome dragon hunter, Arturo Díaz de Montserrat, withholds his help, she refuses to take no for an answer. Without him, her world will burn. But even if he agrees, there’s someone out to ruin the Zalvidar family, and Zarela will have to do whatever it takes in order to prevent the Dragon Guild from taking away her birthright.
Lyric Bishop and Kian Montgomery, both graduate students, are best friends and roommates. When Lyric needs help cracking the Sizzle Paradox for her doctoral thesis on sexual chemistry–it seems the more attractive she finds a guy, the less “sizzle” there is when they actually have sex; but why? Kian, who never has trouble in the bedroom, offers to tutor her on dating tactics. Lyric, being a self-proclaimed awkward potato, accepts the help she desperately needs. But once the two progress with their “tutoring sessions,” they find that the solution to the Sizzle Paradox might actually be having sex with each other. Which is a problem, because they’re best friends and absolutely, irrefutably nothing else… Right?

I thought Lost in Space was no more but apparently I get one more season. This is an updated version of the show from the 60’s and lasted as long as the orginal – 3 seasons. My husband and I disagree about liking this one. I like it and he doesn’t. I’m not sure why he doesn’t it but I think it’s fascinating and love that there is no end to the thrills.

How was your week – bookish or otherwise?

  1. I got sick from the booster shot, too. I got the Janssen shot back in the spring with no side effects. When I got the Moderna booster shot, I had pain in my arm and suffered from flu-like symptoms for several days. It wasn’t a good time.

I love Netflix’s Lost in Space. Too bad it’s ending with Season Three.

    1. These booster shots can pack a wallop apparently. I wonder why. Glad to hear I have a fellow Lost in Space fan ❤️

  2. My week has been great, thanks for asking! I’ve started to get out of my reading slump and wrote a book review after what seems like a million years 😂 hoping you’re feeling better from the booster, I’m only a Teen and in the uk we only get 1 dose, thankfully I didn’t get many side effects! Hope you’re well 💗

    1. Teens in the US have to get two shots and there’s talk of a booster, so it sounds like UK teens are lucky in that regard. So glad to hear you’re coming out of your reading slump. That’s always a troubling time for any book lover. Happy reading!

  3. I get my booster in two weeks. A lot of people I know have felt worse with the booster compared to their first shots so I have my fingers crossed I’ll be ok.

    1. My fingers are crossed for you! My daughter got the Pfizer booster and was perfectly fine. The two boosters have essentially the same number of antibodies, so I wonder what makes reactions different. I feel normal today except for still a little soreness in my arm, so I guess one day of feeling ill is worth the protection. Have a great week!

  4. The Pzifer booster affected me the same as the second shot. About 24 hours of extreme fatigue. Weird how everyone reacts so differently. Glad you are feeling better.

    1. It is weird since the boosters are essentially the same. My daughter had the Pfizer booster too and didn’t mention any side effects. Crazy. It’s worth the protection though. ❤️

    1. The Pfizer one has seemed – by my unofficial poll 🤣 – to have less side-effects. You all don’t have a choice? We totally had a choice over here but since I had the Moderna originally, I just went with it. I feel fine today so far. ❤️

      1. We can’t choose but for my 2 vaccines I had astra zeneca and I was so ill after both of them! Glad you are feeling better! ❤

  5. I still have a few months til I’m due for my booster. I had Pfizer but I’m considering Moderna, which my kids all had, as a booster.
I’m so glad the ants didn’t invade all of your calendar!
I’m glad to know there will be another season of Lost in Space, I was enjoying it too

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. I debated whether to even get it or not since Moderna’s numbers, even after a year, are pretty strong. But with the in-laws coming for Christmas I figured better safe than sorry.
The third season is out now. I totally forgot where season 2 ended but I was quickly brought up to speed. Enjoy!

  6. Candy with ants inside sounds like something that really would be in Harry Potter world, the kind of candy you’d give to your enemies 😀

  7. Ooh, the Harry Potter advent calendar sounds fun! Glad the ants didn’t manage to ruin it entirely. Hope you’ve recovered from your booster vaccine. It feels very unpredictable how different people react to the various vaccines. I had AstraZeneca for my first two shots and very few side effects.

    1. It does seem to be very unpredictable. I wonder why that is. And I’m glad the ants only got into one candy too. It’s really funny that it was day one but also very good since I noticed right away. Have a great week!

  8. I got my booster this week as well but in order to save time… I also got a flu shot this week (I don’t recommend this) so I was feeling a bit sore and fluish for a day. But, really not too bad, and I’m glad to be protected.

    1. I did two vaccines once and I’ll never do that again either. I didn’t stop to think that both arms would hurt and since I’m a side sleeper that would be a problem. 😳 Live and learn, I guess. Have a great week, Wendy!

  9. I’m not allowed to get my booster untill 2022, because I got my last jab in August. I got Pfizer myself, but one of my friends got Moderna and was feeling unwell 24 hours after his second shot. With Pfizer, I felt fatigued like 5-7 days after I got the jab, out of the blue. Would have made more sense when that happened straight away, wouldn’t it?

  10. The Sizzle Paradox is on my TBR! I would be so sad if my advent calendar got messed up by ants. Glad they only got one candy. I splurged on a local fancy chocolatier advent calendar myself this year! Hope you have a good week!

  11. I originally got Astrazenica vaccines so for our booster we had a choice of phizer or moderna, I chose Phizer and besides a sore arm, I was fine. I gave my grandkids each an advent calendar that my daughter made. Each door has a hand decorated cookie. They are loving them. I’m with you Tessa, it is so hard to resist those blurbs that come with a widget. Enjoy your week.

    1. That advent calendar sounds wonderful. ❤️❤️❤️ There’s not much difference between the boosters, so I have no idea why the reaction. Just one of those things, I guess.

  12. Like you, I had no reaction to the two Phizer vaccine shots taken earlier this year but the booster took me down, right about the 12-hour mark…chills, muscle aches and a very sore arm. It was all over with after about 30 hours. Hubby is going through the same thing now. Go figure.

So happy the deck project was a success! Hubby’s got some skills😏

Got my eye on The Sizzle Paradox. Off to check it out! Have a wonderful week, Tessa💜

    1. That vaccine is very interesting. It’s much different than any other vaccine I’ve ever experienced.

Sizzle Paradox does look good, doesn’t it ❤️

  13. My booster (Pfizer) wasn’t bad the day after other than a sore arm, but the second day found me dragging through work. Glad your aftereffects didn’t last long. Sure am glad you were able to take care of the ant problem before they ate their way through the calendar! Have you been watching the HP Tournament of Houses?

  14. I’ve always had the Pfizer vaccine – the booster left me feeling totally wiped out for a day though not as bad as the second dose had. The decking looks beautiful – good luck with getting the furniture back up there!

    1. We dripped the furniture down over the railing using a rope to clear off the deck but I guess we will have to bring it back up from inside the house. I suppose that means we should clean it first. My to do list keeps getting longer.
