Sunday Post 53 | Thanksgiving is This Thursday – What?!?!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

Today, I have a five-hour drive ahead of me (round trip). We are going up to Raliegh, NC, to see my youngest perform with her college dance company. Then, we are returning home with my oldest and her cat. The younger will return home on Tuesday. It will be a long and late day, but we all have to work on Monday, so what’s a parent to do.

This week was a comedy of errors with the deck boards that didn’t show up last Saturday. They were rescheduled to come on Monday, and – surprise, surprise – they never showed. So, we rescheduled them for this Friday. Well… on Tuesday, when hubby returned home from work, he wanted to know why I didn’t tell him they brought the boards. They did what???? Apparently, someone decided to disregard the Friday date scheduled and just brought them and put them in the driveway. I’m just happy they are here. I wasn’t going to quibble about the delivery being early.

To all my blog friends in the US – I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of love, warmth, and good food.

My schedule will be light this week with mini book reviews of a Thanksgiving read on Tuesday and other books literally from my shelf. What??? I read two books that I have bought in the last year. On Thursday, I’m just going to post a wrap-up of the Christmas books I read and reviewed this fall for those of you looking for Christmas reads for December – I’ll probably post the regular memes because I can get them ready quickly and ahead of time. I’ll be around, but it will be here and there when I can.

I love the sound of this one. Atria books sent me the widget and I was happy to make roon in my schedule.

Perfect for fans of Ruth Ware and Lisa Jewell, this “dazzlingly clever” (The Sunday Times) murder mystery follows a community rallying around a sick child—but when escalating lies lead to a dead body, everyone is a suspect. The Fairway Players, a local theatre group, is in the midst of rehearsals when tragedy strikes the family of director Martin Hayward and his wife Helen, the play’s star. Their young granddaughter has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and with an experimental treatment costing a tremendous sum, their fellow castmates rally to raise the money to give her a chance at survival. But not everybody is convinced of the experimental treatment’s efficacy—nor of the good intentions of those involved. As tension grows within the community, things come to a shocking head at the explosive dress rehearsal. The next day, a dead body is found, and soon, an arrest is made. In the run-up to the trial, two young lawyers sift through the material—emails, messages, letters—with a growing suspicion that a killer may be hiding in plain sight. The evidence is all there, between the lines, waiting to be uncovered. A wholly modern take on the epistolary novel, The Appeal is a “daring…clever, and funny” (The Times) debut for fans of Richard Osman and Lucy Foley.

from Amazon

I’ve had so many NetGalley books recently that I didn’t have room to put books that I’ve gotten from Amazon.

Seeds of luck usually wither. The rare one grows and blooms. Piper Seidel has one thing going for her—a red carnation given to her by Tommy Burnett in the tenth grade. It might have dried over the years, but it’s still her good luck charm. Losing it sets her life in a downward spiral, forcing her to return to her hometown where she comes face to face with her high school crush. The years have been kind to Tommy, who looks better than ever. Unfortunately, Piper is at her worst, continually embarrassing herself whenever he’s around. The only plus? Her long-time friend, Jack Rhodes, still lives in town. Since she last saw him, his legs have grown longer, his biceps thicker, and his shoulders broader. He was always the brother she never had, but now she can’t help noticing him in an unsisterly way. Jack is every bit as caring as he’s ever been—until her bad luck drives him away, maybe forever. Piper needs a new good luck charm, and fast, before she loses her final chance at happiness.
A man keeping King Arthur’s dream of Camelot alive. A Robin Hood battling in a drastically different Sherwood. A young man facing eternity in the desert. A genteel southern lady besting a powerful order of genies. A woman meeting her father decades after his death. These are but a few of the intriguing tales waiting to be discovered in Things Old and Forgotten. Prepare to be transported to realms of folklore and legend, where magic and wonder linger around every corner, and fantastic possibilities are limited only by imagination.
Indy Savage is a former wild child (okay, maybe not so “former”) and current used-bookstore owner. Lee Nightingale is a former bad boy and now runs a private investigation service. Toss together a quiet barista with a not-so-lawful side-business, a crazy Vietnam Vet, a pothead, a drag queen, family and friends who will not mind their own business, a few stun guns, and a bag of diamonds, and mix them all up with some shootings, a high-speed chase and car bombs exploding, then hang on for your first wild Rock Chick ride.

We tried the new The Wheel of Time series on Prime Video . I had trouble following at first but by the end of the 1st episode I was following along thoroughly and looking forward to more.

  1. Have a safe trip today and happy thanksgiving. I pretty much only buy books I’ve read as an arc because I just don’t get time to read them. I also have too many already that I’ve bought over the years and not read.

  2. I plan to watch Wheel of Time soon. Have not read the series, but curious about the adaptation. Glad to hear you’re liking it.

  3. Hoping you have a lovely thanksgiving! I’m from the UK, and we don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving but I love that it’s a time of gratitude! Looking forward to the cozy book reviews!

  4. I had a very laid back week. I did put up my Christmas tree and the kids helped decorate it. Yesterday was the five year anniversary of the passing of my husband, so I got together with my kids and grandkids and we went to dinner and toasted to his life and memories. I began watching Yellowstone this week. I have watched the first three episodes of season 1 and am on the fence right now. I also read and listened to a lot of books, so overall, it was a good week. It sounds like you continue to be very busy. I am glad you got your deck boards and can work on that project. I hope today goes well for everyone and that the dance performance is wonderful.

    1. It sounds like you had a beautiful week and remembrance. We’ve made it to my daughters apartment so far and are just waiting to go to dinner and the show, then back down to home. Have a lovely Thanksgiving!

  5. I hope the performance went well. My husband had to do a nine hour round trip on Saturday to pick up our daughter from University. She’s home now until 2nd year starts in March.

Wishing you a great reading week

    1. Oh, my. That’s almost twice as much driving as we have. At least she is home for a while. I’m sure you’ll enjoy that!

  7. Well, I’m glad the deck boards showed up, Tessa, even if late/late/early. What a pain, huh? We’re having similar issues with an attempt to get a propane tank. Rescheduled for March! You have some great books lined up. Enjoy. And thanks for the heads up on Wheel of Time. I hated the books (and for some reason read them all) but have looked forward to the series (hoping it will be an improvement). I’ll be sure to pay attention to the first episode. Have a wonderful week, my friend.

    1. It was such a pain. That’s funny about The Wheels of Time. Maybe you’ll like the tv series better. Have a lovely Thanksgiving, Diana!

  8. After a couple of novella reviews at the beginning of the week, I have a lighter blogging week too thanks to a few changes in books and also because I originally thought I’d be doing some NaNoWriMo writing. Oh well. I’ll use the time to maybe get caught up on non-review books! Have a good week!

  9. Although I no longer live in the US, there was a time when I’d celebrate Thanksgiving, but on Friday instead of Thursday. Now that I’m mostly on my own, I can’t imagine making a whole bird! But have a happy one, anyway!

  10. I also read a book from my own shelf over the weekend – Aurora’s End. It was one of my most anticipated this year, and after that mind-blowing cliffhanger, I couldn’t wait to see what happened. Wheel of Time is on my list also! Glad you finally got the deck boards, no matter how they got there. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family, Tessa!

    1. Yeah for reading books from our bookshelves! Wheel of Time was pretty good once I understood what was going on. I don’t know that any of it is mindblowingly original, but I thought it was pretty solid.
