What Are You Reading This Week – November 10, 2021? #WWWWednesday #CurrentlyReading

I’m starting A Cornish Christmas Murder today. It’s my last Christmas book this year. I’ve enjoyed many Fiona Leitch books including her first book with this detective – Jodie “Nosey” Parker – so I expect only good things.

  • Genre: Mystery
  • Pages: 249 pgs.
  • Publisher: One More Chapter (Harper Collins)
  • Publication Date: December 9, 2021 (Nov. 29 in the UK)
A PINCH OF PARANOIA It’s three days before Christmas, and detective-turned-chef Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker is drafted in to cater a charity event run by a notorious millionaire at a 13th-century abbey on Bodmin Moor. A DASH OF DECEPTION Things get more complicated when a snowstorm descends, stranding them all, and the next morning they find one of the guests has been gruesomely murdered in their bed… A MURDER UNDER THE MISTLETOE Secrets mull in every corner – can Jodie solve the crime before the killer strikes again?

I’ve seen many reviews where the reviewed book is described as being like a warm hug, and that’s exactly how I would describe The Cranberry Inn. It drew me in with its warm hominess and kept me so happy to be staying at the Cranberry Inn.

  • Genre: Holiday Fiction
  • Pages: 257 pgs

As twinkling lights go up and snowflakes begin to fall, Laurel Hanover and her eight-year-old son are going home to the Cranberry Inn in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. Laurel can’t wait to leave New York behind to help her father run the family business, and make snow angels with her son, even if it’s just for Christmas. But when she walks through the door, she’s shocked to find the inn in disrepair, and a letter saying her father will be gone until Christmas Eve… No one in town knows where Laurel’s father is, and she doesn’t know whether to be worried or angry – but she won’t let the inn go under, and nothing will get in the way of the perfect Christmas for her son. Seeing the worn-out wooden bannisters, bare of festive lights, she immediately recruits her childhood friend, brooding local carpenter Joel Hutcherson. They might disagree on whether any walls actually need to come down, but each rip in the carpet makes Laurel more concerned for her father, and Joel is a welcome distraction. And when he admits that Laurel was his first crush, she realises she’s falling for him. But then Laurel uncovers a card with beautiful, ornate writing amongst her father’s things and learns the real reason he disappeared. And it changes everything. Worse still, she thinks Joel knew the truth all along. Laurel thought this was going to be the perfect Christmas – that maybe she had found her happy. But now there’s nothing to stop her from running back to New York the moment the baubles come down… is there?

I’ve had The Awakening ever since it came out – yes, almost a year!!! And, it is going to be my weekend read. The next book is coming out soon, so I would love to have this read by then. I’m not a big romance fan – aside from holiday fiction and romcoms – but I’ve always enjoyed Nora Roberts’ fantasies. I’m looking forward to FINALLY reading this first book in her newest fantasy trilogy.

  • Genre: Romantic Fantasy

It has been funded by her long-lost father—and it’s worth nearly four million dollars. This newfound fortune would be life-changing for anyone. But little does Breen know that when she uses some of the money to journey to Ireland, it will unlock mysteries she couldn’t have imagined. 1. These are some great picks. I haven’t read a Nora Roberts novel for awhile! Currently I’m reviewing Reckoning by Stephanie Baldi. 🙂

    1. I can tell I missed some things from not reading books 2 and 3 but just minor personal story points. It’s pretty fun so far ❤️

  2. They all sound like winners. Though I confess I haven’t read Nora Roberts in probably fifteen years. (There was a time I could honestly say I’d read all of her work. Me. Can you believe that?) Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on all of these.

    1. Ummm…{slowly raises hand} me too. Straight-out romances and all. Lol 😆. In my teens and twenty’s, I would gobble up romance, especially hers.

  3. You said you just finished your last holiday book for the year. Are these reviews you have for before the holiday so other people can read them during the season, or do you save your holiday reviews for the holiday season itself?

    1. I’ve already reviewed and posted 4 and the reviews for the two on this post will be posted next week. Then I thought for a Thanksgiving post I might do a recap of all six holiday books, since most people read them between Thanksgiving and Christmas ❤️

      1. Oh, great idea! You’ve given us time to buy them and then remind us to read them instead of just putting them on the TBR pile on the night stand like you know we do! LOL. This is a good idea for all holiday reading….usually I really struggle to get horror reviews up in October because I want to read the books in October and I’m already scheduled out a way. Thanks, Tessa. You’re a book blog guru.

  5. Clearly I’ve missed something. I thought Nora Roberts only wrote romance? Had no idea she wrote anything like this.

    1. Oh, yes! She started off with more urban fantasy but in the last five years or so has stepped up to full on fantasy with true world-building and lots of magic and magical creatures.

    1. I heard that it started a bit slow and it surely does. Too many small details. But I’m in Ireland now and it is picking up a bit.❤️
