This whole week was dark, gray, and raining but that led into a beautiful autumn weekend with sunny skies and temps that I absolutely love – in the 70s (23-24 Celsius for those outside the US)!!! And the upcoming week is supposed to be more of the same. I am very much looking forward to that.

My lovely daughters made it back from Disney in one piece and without any breakthrough viruses. They had a wonderful time and said that the ride lines were not long but shopping lines were CRAZY. Everyone wanted that 50 years of Disney World merchandise. My husband and I have been invited to go next year in early-ish December. They actually Face Timed us every evening, so it was sort of like we were there. The only pictures they sent though were these gems on the left 🙄

My husband and I got out and about a bit. We went to a fund-raising event that raised money for the people in our community who are still struggling financially as a result of Covid. It was a food and music type of affair with indoor and outdoor seating. We hung out in the cool night air enjoying the two localish bands that played – quite a nice evening!

The Martian meets Dark Matter in Edward Ashton’s high concept science fiction thriller, in which Mickey7, an “expendable,” refuses to let his replacement clone Mickey8 take his place. Dying isn’t any fun…but at least it’s a living. Mickey7 is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it. On a fairly routine scouting mission, Mickey7 goes missing and is presumed dead. By the time he returns to the colony base, surprisingly helped back by native life, Mickey7’s fate has been sealed. There’s a new clone, Mickey8, reporting for Expendable duties. The idea of duplicate Expendables is universally loathed, and if caught, they will likely be thrown into the recycler for protein. Mickey7 must keep his double a secret from the rest of the colony. Meanwhile, life on Niflheim is getting worse. The atmosphere is unsuitable for humans, food is in short supply, and terraforming is going poorly. The native species are growing curious about their new neighbors, and that curiosity has Commander Marshall very afraid. Ultimately, the survival of both lifeforms will come down to Mickey7. That is, if he can just keep from dying for good.
Locked-Room Mystery

I just watched more of what I’ve been enjoying (Lost Symbol on Peacock, The Great British Baking Show & (finally finished) Lucifer on Netflix, and Turner and Hooch on Disney+), but I did see this very tantalizing trailer and wanted to share it. ❤

    Haha I love how your daughters just sent you photos of things to buy on their to trip to Disney World! 😅 I have seen the crazy lines for the 50 years celebration though, on the YouTube channel Super Enthused. As for my own week it was a mixed bag weather wise and was dominated by work and medical appointments (nothing serious, don’t worry), and reading the weighty The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas (so close to finishing)!     Ooh, the weather where you are sounds so lovely! It’s been getting even hotter and more humid here in the tropics and I literally melt every day 😂 Can’t wait to see your thoughts on Keeper of Night! Will be starting that one very soon. I hope you have a fab week ahead!

    That fundraiser sounds like it was pretty special. An evening outdoor concert would draw me in a nanosecond. I’m still not out and about as much as I could be but I’m getting there.

    I hadn’t realized Disney World is only 50 years old until they were talking about it on the radio the other day. I forgot that it’s Disneyland that is the older one.

    That’s so nice that you went to a fundraiser. Oddly, there aren’t many fundraisers near me, despite (or due to?) me living in a sizable city. When I lived in a smaller town I used to head over to hospice benefits all the time. Now, I just get mail asking me to give money.

      I think they are just harder to find in bigger cities. That’s one of the things I like living in the suburbs of a bigger city. I get the benefits of all the things the bigger city brings while still having the small town charm. ❤️

    Now that autumn is here, I got in as much swimming as I could while the sun was out and the temperatures were in the 70s. We closed the pool for the season on Sunday and I almost have all the pool and summer yard stuff put away. I will putz with the rest of that this week. I read and listened to lots this week as that is pretty much what I do when outside and in the pool. I didn’t know that Gigi Pandian was writing a new series. I really enjoyed her Jaya Jones series. That Fiona Vietch Christmas mystery also looks good. Have a great week, Tessa.
