#WWWWednesday – September 8th | What Are You Reading?

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

I can’t wait to start Iron Widow later today. I’ve already heard wonderful things about it ❤️

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao

  • Genre: YA Fantasy
  • Print Length: 400 pgs
  • Publisher: Penguin Teen
  • Publication Date: September 21, 2021
The boys of Huaxia dream of pairing up with girls to pilot Chrysalises, giant transforming robots that can battle the mecha aliens that lurk beyond the Great Wall. It doesn’t matter that the girls often die from the mental strain. When 18-year-old Zetian offers herself up as a concubine-pilot, it’s to assassinate the ace male pilot responsible for her sister’s death. But she gets her vengeance in a way nobody expected—she kills him through the psychic link between pilots and emerges from the cockpit unscathed. She is labeled an Iron Widow, a much-feared and much-silenced kind of female pilot who can sacrifice boys to power up Chrysalises instead. To tame her unnerving yet invaluable mental strength, she is paired up with Li Shimin, the strongest and most controversial male pilot in Huaxia. But now that Zetian has had a taste of power, she will not cower so easily. She will miss no opportunity to leverage their combined might and infamy to survive attempt after attempt on her life, until she can figure out exactly why the pilot system works in its misogynist way—and stop more girls from being sacrificed.

Lies Like Wildfire is absolutely wild like a fire 😂. The story starts with a possible death mentioned and then moves quickly to the past and a wild fire that starts in innocence and quickly gets out of control. So, you can imagine.

Lies Like Wildfire by Jennifer Lynn Alvarez

  • Genre: YA Thriller
  • Print Length: 384 pgs
  • Publisher: Delacorte Press
  • Publication: September 7, 2021
An intense high-stakes story about five friends and the deadly secret that could send their lives up in flames, perfect for fans of Karen McManus and E. Lockhart. In Gap Mountain, California, everyone knows about fire season. And no one is more vigilant than 18-year-old Hannah Warner, the sheriff’s daughter and aspiring FBI agent. That is until this summer. When Hannah and her best friends accidentally spark an enormous and deadly wildfire, their instinct is to lie to the police and the fire investigators. But as the blaze roars through their rural town and towards Yosemite National Park, Hannah’s friends begin to crack and she finds herself going to extreme lengths to protect their secret. Because sometimes good people do bad things. And if there’s one thing people hate, it’s liars.

This is Why We Lie looks like it will be another wild ride for me. I can’t wait.

Everyone in Gardiners Bay has a secret. When Jenna Dallas and Adam Cole find Colleen O’Dell’s body floating off the shore of their coastal town, the community of Gardiners Bay is shaken. As she uncovers scandals inside Preston Prep School leading back to Rookwood reform school, she knows she needs Adam on her side. As a student at Rookwood, Adam is used to getting judgmental looks, but now his friends are being investigated by the police. Adam will do whatever he can to keep them safe, even if that means trusting Jenna. As lies unravel, the truth starts to blur. Only one thing is certain: somebody must take the fall.

  2. You know I’m not a big fan of YA but Likes Like Wildfire sounds really good. I can’t wait to see your review. I may have to add that one to my reading pile.

I recently stared Lady Sunshine by Amy Mason Doan. So far, I’m really enjoying it.

    1. That one sounds really good. Enjoy!
I don’t know if the UK boxes were the same but there were two books in my Fairy Loot box this month – the normal hardback and a paperback of another book. So much on my TBR pile.

    1. It’s one of my blog tour books (from out of the UK) so not sure how the US publisher handles requests. It’s all such a mystery to me. I think you would like it though.
