#BookBloggerHop | Bookmarks Are Every Bibliophiles Best Friend

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

What do you use for a bookmark? A real one or something else?

(submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

As many of you know, mostly I read ebooks and they come with their own little digital bookmark. But, lately I’ve been sent a few physical book copies to review. With physical books, you would think that I would use some of these beautiful bookmarks (pictured) that FairyLoot sends me pretty much every month. Usually, though, I end up using a sticky note, Kleenex, or any other handy thing nearby. I’m not particular about what I use. It just has to be something that’s nearby.

What do you use for a bookmark? (Bonus question) What’s the most unusual thing you remember using as a bookmark?

  1. I try to use an actual bookmark, I have a bunch of gorgeous FairyLoot ones too, and I crafted a few origami cat bookmarks, so usually I choose one, preferably one that matches the cover or the genre. But sometimes I forget and then I’ll use whatever I find within reach, the corner of of blanket, a remote control, my e-reader, …

    1. My bookmarks are never where I need them. Eventually, I usually end up remembering to go get one but after I’ve already started with something else that was handy.

    1. Lol. You utilize some very unique things to function as a bookmark. Whatever it takes until you can find something better, right?

  2. I try to use bookmarks since I’ve ended up with so many! But sometimes I just end up using the receipt. I’ve used my phone a couple times as a temporary bookmark too!

  3. Like you, I read mostly e-books, and I don’t own a bookmark! So, it’s a scrap of paper or I just leave the book upside down open to the page, or I turn down a corner.

    1. I may do those things in a pinch with a paperback but I’ve never been able to bring myself to do it with a hardback. I’m not sure why it’s different for the different publications.

  4. I’ve actually always hated bookmarks. Many are definitely very pretty, but I have a habit of moving around while reading, so I usually lose the bookmark. I almost always remember the page or chapter I’m on, so it’s never a problem, though I do remember using an unused tissue once.

    1. As long as it was unused 😉. I have as well. I always have a box of Kleenex nearby, so it’s kind of,a natural fit for me.

  5. I have these little magnet bookmarks that I like because I can pause anywhere on the page and stick a book mark on the side. In the days before cell phones I’d say my bookmark was often a piece of toilet paper. When I was working at a library, we had a kitschy decorative thing in the back room that said, “Bookmarks are for quitters” and I always hated it.
