Sunday Post 38 | Oh, Instagram – Why Did You Take Up So Much of my Time This Week?

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

My daughter’s birthday was this week and both girls came home for the weekend. So, of course, I had to bake her a cake. I’m very proud of my little two layer cake. It’s gluten free since I can’t have anything with gluten, chocolate, and in between the layers I filled it with a homemade no-bake chocolate cheesecake filling with mini chocolate chips. (I was totally inspired by that chocolate bake show I mentioned last week.). And then I covered it all with a simple white frosting since the middle is so rich. It came out surprisingly yummy and held together perfectly 😍

But what happened with Instagram you might be asking yourself since that’s the title of this week’s post…

Well, let me tell you, I was totally hijacked by Instagram this week, that’s what happened. You’re probably thinking I spent too much time commenting on posts, setting up photos, or even editing said photos. But no, that wasn’t it at all!

My login broke sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday and, to make a long story short, it bothered me so much that I had lost access to an account I have spent so much time and energy growing that I was distracted for 3 days trying to figure out what happened, how to fix it, and how to alert IG there was a problem (they are not easy to get a message too). Finally, my hair stylist suggested on Friday when I was getting my haircut to tag IG on Twitter. I did that and by Friday evening I was back in. Whew!

Under the Mistletoe by Sue Moorcroft

Christmas. A time for family, friends – and rekindling old flames…

When Laurel returns to the village of Middledip, she’s looking for a quiet life. Adjusting to her recent divorce, she’s ready to spend some time getting back on her feet amidst the glorious snow-dusted countryside.

Yet, life in Middledip is far from straightforward. Coming to the aid of her sister, Rea, as she navigates her own troubles, Laurel barely has a moment to think about where her own life is going.

However, time stands still when she sees her old flame, Grady Cassidy – and it’s soon as if they’ve never been apart. But through her happiness, Laurel remembers why she left the village all those years ago, as she recalls a dark night and Grady’s once-wayward brother, Mac…

Can Laurel learn to forgive and forget? Or will her chances of Christmas under the mistletoe with Grady remain a dream?

My Amazon Prime First Reads Choice for August

Life Unscheduled by Kristin Rockaway

A smart, modern novel about a woman trying to balance her career, her best friend, and falling in love without crashing and burning.

Nicole Palmieri is married to her job. As a user experience designer at Virtuality, an artificial intelligence company in Los Angeles, Nicole is at her desk from sunrise to sunset. She doesn’t have time for a social life (or a love life), but that’s perfectly fine with her. Until her best friend, Parisa Shahin, announces her engagement and asks Nicole to be her maid of honor.

That’s when Nicole decides to meticulously schedule out the next six months of her life—from her project due dates to her dress-fitting appointments to how many hours she plans to sleep each night. If she can stick to her schedule, she’ll balance everything fine. Of course, that’s a really big if. And after she crosses paths with emerging restaurateur Brandon Phelps, Nicole is feeling feelings she hasn’t felt in…well, ever. But scheduling time to fall in love might push even the most meticulous plans into pure chaos.

My daughters waited til all four of us could go together to see Black Widow, so that was my “watch” for the week. We actually went to a theater for the first time since March of 2020. The small theater in Davidson is really funny. It’s an independent theater and the ads they show before the movie are totally local. Plus each of the four theaters has 16 small tables with 2 hi-back office chairs per table. Perfect for a pandemic time because there is plenty of room to spread out. As a matter of fact, there was only the four of us and two other women when were in there. Apparently, The Jungle Cruise was a bit of a bigger draw.

We loved the movie. It makes me even more sad that Natasha didn’t make it out of Endgame alive. I also just loved the Elena character (Natasha’s sister) and hope she ends up becoming a hero. She is just way too funny to not be one. Strong family theme, lots of action and adventure, cool special effects – what more can you want from a movie?

  1. That cake looks delicious!! Well done!! The best I can bake is simple banana bread 😂 I watched Black Widow yesterday but I never loved her as a character, so I didn’t loved the movie… Have a lovely weekend!!

    1. Thank you! I liked the sister best. “Such a poser.” Totally cracked me up every time she referred to her feelings about that. Lol.

  2. Wow, Tessa! You’re killing me with that cake! I must get that recipe. I too am gluten free for over five years now and still haven’t baked many gluten free sweets other than chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin bread, and an avocado tart. I’d love to try cake! It’s so beautiful!

I’m glad you were able to get your IG worked out. I’m not on IG, but it’s tempting. I’ve considered moving away from WP altogether and going with that platform instead.

Hope your daughter had a wonderful birthday, and I’m glad you all enjoyed Black Widow. ❤️

  3. It’s so frustrating when things go wrong on social media especially when they don’t respond through the normal channels. Was it the app or the website that you had problems with? I had problems on the website and have ditched it.so I’m just using the app. Love the cake by the way, it’s looks delicious!

    1. I usually use the app but I tried app and website when it broke. I would go to log in, the wheel would spin, and then nothing. The login button would come back up ready to be pressed again. Yet, I got email notifications about logging in from unknown devices, so something in the system thought I was actually getting in but I wasn’t. I just saw almost two years of photos and followers going right down the drain.

    1. It totally was and thank you! I think she did have a good day and she loved the cake, even if it is gluten free. Lol.

  4. That cake looks yummy! Sorry to hear about your experience with Instagram, things like that would frustrate the living daylight out of me. So glad you got it solved, although one would think there would be a more direct way, than tagging IG at Twitter!

    1. Oh, they have a help form thingy but you have to be able to get into the account to access it. Lol. But I did fill out that form from my personal account many times. They never acknowledge it, so I don’t know what happens to it.

  5. That is a beautiful cake!! Well done! Happy Birthday to your daughter! I also have Under the Mistletoe, I enjoy Sue Moorcraft’s writing style. Lets hope we both love it!

  6. That cake looks delicious, Tessa! I hope your daughter and you all had a lovely time celebrating her birthday. As for me, I just got back off a wonderful, two week holiday, which was just what I needed! I read a couple of books by favourite authors and watched very little, as there was no TV where I stayed for a week. Take care and happy reading in August! 🙂

    1. Thank you! It was very tasty 😋 Even if it is gluten free but I’m sure you know how challenging gluten free baking can be.

  7. THAT CAKE!!!! What are the pastel decorations on top? They look satin-y. So beautiful and so yummy! How do you make the chocolate cheesecake filling?

So sorry about Insta! How does ones login “break”?

    1. You can get them in the grocery store right in the baking section – at least in NC you can. They are pearlescent candies with just the right amount of crunch. So pretty 😍

And I would go to login and when I pushed the login button the wheel would spin and then nothing. I was still on the login screen and the button was ready to push again. I tried it on multiple devices and even my computer and every time it was the same thing. Yet, I was getting emails that alerted me to a login from a different device. So it’s like the system thought I was logging in but it never actually took me to my feed. Weird…

    1. I think it would be so fun to go to a drive in. They talked about bringing one back in the next town but I never heard if they actually did.

  8. So glad that you got the IG issue sorted out. I have an account, but I don’t really use it much. That cake looks so yummy. I hope your daughter had a wonderful birthday.

  9. That cake looks delicious! I don’t bake a lot with frosting or layers but ever since I started watching the Great British Bake Off two weeks ago, I’ve been more tempted to give it a try! 😍 That cover of Six Crimson Cranes is also perfect next to that cake! I was leaning towards the same book for my Amazon First Reads so I’m curious to see what you’ll think of it if you pick it up soon. Have a great week ahead!

  10. That’s first I heard about IG login issue. Great it got resolved. I never sign out from IG so never had to face any issue. That cake look delicious. looks like you had great time with your daughters. I also felt sad when Natasha didn’t survive. She was my favourite avenger.

    1. I never sign out either but it was telling me that it couldn’t refresh my feed yet internet was fine, so I knew something was up. It was something on their end. Their system was logging me in but not taking me to my feed or anything. Very weird.

  11. The cake looks absolutely amazing – and delicious too. Instagram is just a step too far for me, I co-run some buddy reads and a Book of the Month in two Goodreads groups, between that and the blog I lose enough reading time as it is. More social media would destroy me. I’m so glad you got the login sorted – things like that are just so annoying and distracting.

    1. If I did all that – there would be no way to fit IG in either. And thank you! I am very proud of my cake and it was tasty too!

  12. Can’t believe that happened with your IG account – glad you got it fixed. Now I’ll know what to do if it happens to me. I may get kicked out of the Marvel fan club – I still haven’t seen Black Widow yet. Most free time has been spent on finishing the book to make the deadline. The cake looks awesome!

    1. I was going to wait till it came out on Disney+ for free but my daughters said, “Mom, we waited to see it with you.” So what’s a mom to do. Lol. It was nice getting out to a movie theater again though. Oh, I’m going to try your chocolate and peanut butter request for my husband’s birthday at the end of the month. See if I can do it justice 😍

  13. Your cake is so colorful and fun! The top tier of our wedding cake was funfetti 🙂

I’m only looking at your Avatar/Photo, but I can’t believe you have daughters who are off (adulting? In college?).

    1. I Renaissance painting “ed” my photo. It makes everyone look younger. And not tired. And all that is good. There’s nothing like a painting to immortalize one with a youthful demeanor.

One daughter is in college and the other just graduated from college.❤️

        1. Lol. If you look close enough – I agree. I thought it went well with the Title. Every Lady of the Manor needs a Renaissance painting of themselves.

    1. Twitter seems to be magical for that ❤️ And thank you! It came out so tasty and looked good. Usually my cakes are tasty but messy. Lol.
