This week, I was determined to workout for five days. Determined! And then Monday, I discovered a new and inventive way to injure yourself when using a VR headset.

I’ve been using my Oculus VR Headset mostly for working out ever since I was given it for my birthday back in February. There is a great program on it called Supernatural and it’s a fun and great workout – truthfully, I’ve never perspired so much. I’ve included a trailer so you can see it. It really does look like that when you have the headset on (minus seeing yourself)!

So – back to Monday – because of my determination to workout more this week, I came at it in a big way on Monday morning. I was aggressively popping those bubble like things with my sabers, and they were coming at me fast and furious. Now, I can’t see my hands at all when the headset is on though the game does alert me if I go out of the safety area (so I don’t run into things). Anyway, somehow my right hand and controller smacked the thumb of my left hand very hard like it was one of those balloons. I guess since I couldn’t see my hands, the natural instinct not to hurt yourself didn’t kick in and let’s just say, the results aren’t pretty. My thumb is still a bit swollen and bruised along the section of bone between the knuckle and the joint at the base. Fortunately, no joints were impacted and pain has been limited to contact. I’ve been keeping it in a splint to protect it from contact and just in case I damaged it more than it seems likely. That was my week. Hope your was much better!

At first glance, few would guess that Luna and Cullan Bodman are siblings. Cullan is efficient and serious while his younger sister Luna is a free spirit. When the two launch their furniture restoration shop/café—an offshoot of the family’s longtime antique business—in an up-and-coming arts center, little do they know their unique talents may be their only defense in a matter of life and death.

When Luna gets a strange sense about a piece Cullan just acquired, the two find themselves uniting to solve a mystery that has far-reaching consequences—never knowing there are some who’ll stop at nothing to claim what they believe is theirs. Despite their differences, Luna and Cullan know they can rely on each other—and this time, their lives may depend on it…

I came across this baking show from Canada’s Food Network – Great Chocolate Showdown and well, CHOCOLATE! Need I say more. I binged watched both seasons 😋

Then, yesterday, hubby and I tried the Turner and Hooch series on Disney+. It has sarcastic humor and a lovable drooly dog – what more can you want? The Turner in this show is the son of the Turner from the movie with Tom Hanks back in 1989. I like that it has the connection. I think it would appeal more to adults and maybe older kids, but I would consider it family-friendly. There are guns in it and violence, so if you are thinking of letting your kids watch it just be aware of that.

  1. Yikes… I don’t know if I am allowed to giggle not at injury and pain but the way a virtual thingy caused real pain🤭

  2. I can see how you got injured. I remember playing bowling on he Wii and forgetting I had stairs and bumped my head. Although I would love to give VR a try, but I wouldn’t rule out getting injured. Or other people for that matter. I loved Turner and Hooch the first time round, and, like you, I love that they’ve made it so the father is the original Turner. To be fair I love anything with dogs in and detective programmes, so it’s a win, win for me. If you like that you’ll like Hudson and Rex. It is a similar series, where the dog is part of the police, but a little better trained.

    1. I’ll have to check out Hudson and Rex. It definitely sounds like something I’d enjoy ❤️

  3. Ouch! I am sorry to hear you injured yourself while excercising with the Oculus VR headset. I can definitely see how it would be more difficult to keep track of your hands when in VR. I manage to hurt myself even without one. I hope your hand recovers smoothly. That does sound like a fun way to exercise. I hope you’ll enjoy your new book and have a great week!

    1. It really is a fun way to exercise. You can pick different music, different intensities, and different lengths, so it’s always fresh. And the scenery in VR is incredible. I am always in awe. You can even turn around, so it’s like you’re really standing there.

  4. I can relate! My treadmill accident was painful and made me feel oh so dumb and I haven’t even tried a VR headset. Hope you are much better! Who knew how dangerous getting healthy could be!

    1. It’s so dangerous. And I’m one of those people who, if it can happen, it will. Lol. It taught me to be very mindful of what my hands are doing even if I can’t see them 😯🥲🤣

  5. I hope you feel much better soon. That Supernatural workout sounds very good! I’ve never thought about doing a workout with VR.

  6. I’m sorry that happened to you, but it is rather funny that we can be injured doing a virtual workout. LOL I wear glasses and need at least a tri-focal for all my weird vision distance ranges so I would need to do a try before you buy an Oculus. Not sure my wonky vision could handle it. lol

  7. That looks like an amazing way to work out, but I’m clumsy when I can see everything, so I would definitely follow you right down that injury path! ‘Hidden’ also sounds amazing, I love a good thriller meets sibling-bond story! I hope you have a lovely week 🙂

  8. Hi Tessa. First off, ouch! Shame the thumb injury wasn’t vr too. Hope it heals quickly. But you’re right supernatural looks awesome! No wonder it’s helped you workout so much.
I saw Turner and Hooch advertised and wasn’t sure, but I think I’ll give it a try this week. Thanks for the recommendation.
Hope you have a good week (injury free). X

    1. I liked Turner and Hootch. I hope you do too if you give it a go. My husband didn’t think he’d like it, but totally did.

  9. That’s an awesome way to workout! I’d love a VR headset but it’s out of my budget unfortunately. I love feel good cooking shows, I’ll have to look for The Great Chocolate showdown

Wishing you a great reading week

  10. I’m jumping around looking for new book blog friends, and I have to say that reading “I was aggressively popping those bubble like things with my sabers, and they were coming at me fast and furious” made this stop worth it!

  11. Sorry for laughing at your bubble-popping injury, Tessa. I read that part to my husband and now he wants to exercise in VR. Lol. I told him it’s dangerous! And thanks for sharing your book haul. Turner and Hooch is a great movie. I don’t think it will ever grow old. 🙂

    1. He would love it! I think it is more the user in this case than the VR. I just have that way about me. And to see how VR looks… it’s amazing and stunning. That exercise that I do puts you on the Great Wall of China, in Iceland, even on the moon. There are so many gorgeous locals that it uses. Sometimes I forget to pop those bubbles and just turn around in circles taking it all in.

  12. I am not sure if VR is for me, if you can injure yourself, I can only imagine what I would end up doing. I didn’t do much this past week except read, swim, and cut grass. Oh wait, my grandkids were over for two days as well and they kept me busy. Have a great week Tessa.

  13. That workout looks awesome! I’d love to give it a try. Sorry you injured yourself, Tessa. Strangely enough, I also hurt the ring finger on my left hand last week, but nothing as dramatic as yours. I was walking through a door in my house and slammed my hand against the doorframe while trying to turn out the light. Was able to get two of my rings off, but the third isn’t going anywhere. Not like this is a new house – I’ve been walking through that door for 15 years, lol. Hope your swelling is going down.

    1. Ooo…ouch! Our appendages need to be more spatially aware! The bruising is definitely fading but a little swelling is persisting. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And Supernatural is so awesome! Very cool 😎

    1. Yes 👍 Still a bit of swelling but the bruising is finally gone.
My login isn’t working on IG. It just looks like it’s thinking and then refreshes the login screen. No messages, no email about an issue 🤷🏻‍♀️ I made a new account in case I never get back in (big big sigh). Giving it to Monday before I start following the few people I interact with regularly from the new account.
