#BookBloggerHop | All-Time Favorite Book Character

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Question:

Who is your favorite character…of all the books you’ve read? Why?

(submitted by Julie @ JadeSky)

Answer:

I feel like I should answer Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series but she is not the top of the favorite characters list – just the character that I have followed the longest. I’ve been mulling over this all week, and I can honestly say that I have no one favorite character. For most books, I mention a favorite character in that book but no one favorite character is more my favorite than another. I hate not having an answer other than null but that’s it. I wonder if I could truly love so many books if I did have a most favorite character? Each book is a chance to meet a new and sometimes exciting cast that tell me a story that takes me away for a time.

One character that I can mention though is one that I mentioned last week: Arwen, Lady of Rivendell, in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I wouldn’t call her my all-time favorite but like I said last week, she is so cool and I want to live in Rivendell. Just as I typed that though a bunch of other characters zipped through my brain as what-abouts. There is just too many favorites to rank or declare a top of that list.

Do you have a #1 favorite book character?

  1. It’s so hard to choose just one character. I’ve seen a lot of great reviews for the Stephanie Plum books though. What a massive series too. Arwen would certainly be at the top of my list, but then there’s SamWise and Aragorn and Gandalf and so many others from just that series alone. 😆

    1. See, that’s exactly what my brain did. Sam Wise is my hero then it went to Gandalf which immediately took me to Dumbledore and then thinking about witches took me to Diana Bishop from Discovery of Witches which made me think of time travel and, of course, Claire from Outlander. You get the picture. 🤯

      1. Oh, gosh. I didn’t even think about Claire!😆 That’s a series I need to finish. I think I’m at book four and have been forever.

Maybe it would’ve been more fun to do a top ten, but even that would be hard. This would be a fun post though! Maybe we can collaborate on one in the future.

  2. This is an extremely hard question for people who read as many books as we do. Eve Dallas of the J. D. Robb In Death series should be my answer, too after 53 books but I’m not sure. Maybe Hero St. Cyr from the Sebastian St. Cyr series by C. S. Harris. She’s definitely my hero.

  3. No way I could choose just one. When I read the question all my favorites popped up in my head clamoring to get to the front of the line.

    1. So many possibilities. Everytime I thought of one possibility that led to a dozen more until my brain just shut down and told me to just stop. 🤣

  4. There is always one character in a book that is one’s favorite, I agree with that! Or in a series. My all time favorite will have to be Hercule Poirot!

Have a good weekend and happy reading!

  5. My favourite book character must be Minerva McGonagall out of Harry Potter. She not only is a great teacher, but someone that shows a strong female presence. I read the Harry Potter books with my daughter. She wasn’t reading very much, and when the books first started she was interested in the story. So we read together.

    1. Love the Harry Potter series and Prof. McGonagall is an excellent choice!!! That’s great that you found books she loves. I have one reader and one reluctant reader, so I understand those challenges ❤

    1. I was thinking about that too. Like in the Stephanie Plum series – Lulu, Grandma Mazur, and Ranger would probably be higher up than the main character. And Sam Wise in LOTR stole my heart ❤️

  6. This is the kind of questions that make reader squirm, but I do have two I put at the top of my list. Aloysius Pendergast from the Special Agent Pendergast series of novels by Preston and Child, and Gerald Tarrant from the Coldfire trilogy by C.S. Friedman.

I’m also a huge fan of King Arthur and Robin Hood 🙂

  7. There are really too many good choices! Even going through this post and comments, I see Professor McGonagall, Arwen, Sam, and Claire, to name a few, that all rank very highly on my list of “favorite” characters. haha…this really was a difficult post.. 😛

    1. Those are just a sampling of the ones that went through my head. It’s like choosing your favorite child as a mom – just not possible ❤️❤️❤️

      1. Exactly! Sure, there are very brief moments where you may like one over the other, but that does not last or make one an actual favorite. ❤ 😀

  10. I was so excited to learn who your favorite character was! I was going to run out and buy the book. Ha ha. But I totally get it… because I can’t pick one either! My favorite LOTR character was Aragorn. I haven’t gotten over my 14-year-old teenage crush on him. Hee hee.

  11. I don’t think I could pick one all time favourite character. There are a lot of characters that I love and have followed for a long time, but everytime I think I have one picked, I think, oh, wait a minute.
