What I Loved

This story moved me to tears as only a story that hits at the heart of the truths about love, and its many challenges can do. Familial love, the loved one feels for a soulmate, and the loved one feels for friends, mentors, and other important people in our lives, they are all described with beauty and truth that hit at my very core. To find love, to be able to give love, and to make hard choices in the name of love are all part of the human condition, and they hold a power that is unexplainable and as miraculous as Fable’s abilities as a gem sage.

I loved watching as Fable tried to outwit Holland. Holland is a force in the gem trade. No one would even dare to cross her until Fable came into her life. Watching the match between Holland and Fable play out created a tension in the story kept me glued to the pages, and as I both feared defeat and hoped for the happy ending.

I love the romance between Fable and West. Even though it started rather abruptly in the first book, watching it bloom and grow even when the odds were stacked against them is beautiful and life-affirming. They are so well matched, which is only evident once we see how they handle the many challenges together.

I loved finding out how Fable got her name. It turns out to be a great story by the end of the book, and I agreed with her that I thought her mother gave her that name for a few different reasons that I won’t mention here. I will let you find that out when you read the book.

To Read or Not to Read

Fable and Namesake represent two halves to a whole, and you cannot possibly read one without reading the other. Read this beautifully written and spellbinding tale of family and love. It will stay with you and warm your heart at unexpected junctures throughout the day.

    I ordered a gorgeous FairyLoot edition of this (shimmering purple spredges, how could I walk away from that, I’m only human 😂) and now I can’t wait to read it!

    I agree with every part of your review. Loved this duology and was really pleased with the ending. I’ve seen other reviewers mention their dislike of the relationship between Fable and West, but I also thought they were well-matched.

      The first book – it definitely started crazy fast – but I thought Namesake does a great job of making it more believable and a relationship I can root for.

    I’ve so wanted to read these books, Tessa. I’ve resisted because they’re so expensive. I have a feeling I’m going to have to suck it up now that you’ve given the whole series a big thumbs up. Off to Amazon!
