Thanksgiving is over and now it’s on to Christmas decorations and figuring out Christmas gifts. Such a stressful and fun time of year.

I’m enjoying having one daughter home until January and my other daughter will be home for almost a month in just a few weeks. The house is full and that is always nice ❤️

The only fly in my ointment this week is that I figured out my post office has not been delivering all of my bills in the last few months. It didn’t deliver 2 from the same company and one from another. And, apparently, they have been returned to those companies saying that the address was incorrect. Huh? I’m still the same address we have lived at for over 5 years, so I have no idea what the post office is doing. Needless to say, I have a few companies that are not very happy with me at the moment. I spent Friday and Saturday making sure I had online access everywhere and setting up alerts and reminders, something I have never had to do before. Now, I have to contact the second company and try to explain. Explaining this is very hard. I know the first company told me I needed to update my address. The address is right, the post office has just gone bonkers. No one can seem to accept that reality. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But, as always, I have been enjoying some wonderful reads this week, which always brightens my day 😊

My Favorite Reads This Fall

As I looked through all the books I reviewed this fall, I realized what a hard thing it is to pick favorites. There have been so many that I have absolutely loved. I decided to pick one from each genre that I predominantly read and one book that was a surprise discovery.

Fantasy: Roshani Chokshi’s trilogy The Gilded Wolf and The Silvered Serpent are incredible – the characters are so intricately developed and the world-building is sublime.

Mystery/Thriller: Lisa Jewell never disappoints with her psychological thrillers. They always have an incredibly disturbing ending and I absolutely love that. Invisible Girl did not disappoint in that regard or any other.

Romcom: Sophie Kinsella has been a romcom author that I have positively adored for many years, and her newest novel Love Your Life was heart-warmingly funny. I loved it!

My surprise discovery: The House Mate by Nina Manning took me by surprise with its ingenious conclusion that made me realize I had read the book all wrong, as was intended. I love when authors can shock me like that. If you like psychological thrillers and are willing to reframe your perceptions, this novel will not disappoint!

This week, I only picked up two books!

Genre: Science Fiction

Nora Roberts fantasy books are usually pre-orders for me and this one definitely was 😊

I organized my December TBR with mysteries on the top, fantasies on the bottom, the two romcoms and the one science fiction reads in the middle. I’m looking forward to my reads next month 😊

His Dark Materials is back for a second season. I loved The Golden Compass series and I’m enjoying the HBO’s series. I did not, however, care for the movie version. It just took too much out.

I read the series as a buddy read many years ago, and I am so glad I did. There is so much to talk about in the story – so many connections and symbolism. It’s very intriguing to me. Pullman is one of those authors who I wish I could sit down with and hear his interpretation of his story.
