The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.
Question:
What is your favorite social media and why?
(submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)
Answer:
I’ve got to admit that I often refer to social media as the bane of my existence, but it helps with my blog, so I actively engage on Twitter and Instagram.
Twitter is the social media which I have the most followers – over 5000. I acquired these followers both naturally (mostly through blog tours) and by utilizing follow trains. Twitter frustrates me, though, because, even though I have all of those followers, my engagement sucks. Well, technically, it ranges in “Good” but I think an engagement rate of 0.05% sucks. I mostly use it for blog tours at this point in time.

in my WWW Wednesday post each week.
So that leaves Instagram. It is definitely my favorite. I enjoy setting up a photo shoot, taking pictures, and playing with the photos, when I have time. I also enjoy creating photos using digital tools. Trying to make the digital photos look real is a fun challenge. I’ve been letting that account grow as it will, and in a year it’s grown to nearly 1,100 followers. I rarely follow people first but I do follow back most bookblog/bookstagram people and writers. My engagement rate is 5.0% which is considered “High” and I can feel that in my posts. Not all my posts have comments but they get likes and there are some conversations going every now and again. And, it is always nice when people compliment my photography 😍.
What’s your favorite social media platform and why?

I have tried repeatedly to use instagram but it just doesn’t “work” for me. I guess it doesn’t help that my phone is old and the camera is useless on it, I much prefer using my pc than my phone for anything internet based.
Those photos are really stunning – if I used instagram I’d definitely follow you!

Thank you so much! I can see where that would be a problem. It sounds like you just weren’t meant to insta but that’s probably not so big a loss. Social media is so time consuming.

I love your Instagram grid it’s so pretty! I prefer Twitter I like the speed of it and the some of the tweets are great fun. I used to love Instagram but I find it a bit of a faff at the moment so haven’t been keeping up with it.

I’m going to admit I had to look up faff ❤️ but I can definitely see that. I avoided it for so long because of that. But I do have fun trying to take pretty pictures 😊

I use Twitter for my blog and engage there more than anywhere else. Instagram mystifies me. I blog for engagement and that platform is, as you say, for sharing visual arts. I love looking at pictures and it’s great for that. But I like talking books and it just falls short of that for me so I never bothered.
Great topic💜 I’m also enjoying reading the comments.

Definitely, my blog is top priority for just that reason – I love to talk books with people who also love to talk books and bookish things. The other stuff is just sort of advertising for me.

I’ll never be a good bookstagrammer because I don’t have the props or area to stage photo shoots the way you and many other IG users do. My 17-year old daughter offered to help, though, because her phone is a lot newer and takes sharper pictures, and as she keeps telling me, “Mom, I’m Instagram famous–look how many likes I got.”
I like Twitter, my old Twitter handle when I ran another blog had a lot of followers. I should have kept it but started over and haven’t participated in any blog tours yet. When I feel like my feet are comfortably on the ground, I’ll do that.
Personally, though, I rarely use social media.

Oh, I definitely have had help from my daughters and lots of advice from them as well. My oldest follows my Instagram and is quick to text me if I make an Instagram faux pas. Who knew there was such a thing?

Twitter is my current favorite since I’ve been using it to keep in the loop and interact with people. I also love Facebook groups but thats really the only thing I use the platform for anymore. I love Pinterest but it’s a mixed bag and I don’t share anything on Youtube. When it comes to Instagram, I’m horrible at it despite being a designer IRL. I just have the worst time coming up with photo and video ideas.

I do Facebook groups from my personal FB account. They are fun but I don’t have much time to really interact.

I agree, they take up a lot of time

I have a number of accounts on social media, Tessa, but I really don’t have time for them. Blogging takes hours and hours and it’s where I’ve decided to spend my efforts. Today I’ve been on the blog for 8 hours straight…so far! I do love your instagram photos. Those are pretty and artsy! I can see why you enjoy that. Well done!

I spend most of my time blogging too. I think that’s why I don’t really have the time or energy to embrace social media, except for taking pictures but that’s just another hobby.
