Welcome to my first Sunday Post! I’m working on what format I want to use, so do not be surprised if things change over the coming weeks. Or maybe they won’t. Who knows? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Life Outside of Book Blogging & Writing: The world outside my door is crazy, but I had a good week in spite of that. My oldest daughter finally got a great job offer. It was looking bleak after she went through her college’s structured recruiting process and came to the end of it without an offer (let’s face it, with Covid still going strong, this is not an ideal time to find a job). But, at the suggestion of the college’s career service’s department, she sent the recruiters of the companies she liked an email saying that she was expanding her location range, and within 24 hours, she had an offer at one of the companies she loved and originally thought she’d get an offer from and in the location she wanted. Plus she had more companies contact her back with interview opportunities. This child (who’s no longer a child) has always had an easy time getting what she wants, even a Disney internship, so this struggle took her and us by surprise. But, as we all know, it’s good to struggle from time to time. It shows us how resilient we are and makes us appreciate what we have even more. And, yes, that was the mom talk she got from me.

For the moment, I will bask in the feeling of having one less weight on my shoulders.

Appeler un chat un chat (To call a cat a cat) – Grace loves mysteries, fantasies, classics, and contemporary fiction and has come up with such a creative blog name!

Defiantly Yours – Lyra reviews mostly romance, NA, and YA – contemporary and fantasy are her favorites.

Bonnie Reads and Writes – Bonnie loves to read and has a wide-variety of interesting reviews.

I’m reading some great books in November. I have organized the covers by genre starting with mysteries – fantasies – romcoms- and my one women’s fiction book. You will be seeing them in my WWW post with more detail as the month progresses.

This week, I picked up the following books:

  • Possession By Katie Lowe is a Psychological Thriller published by St. Martins Press and is available on NetGalley.
  • Karolina Dalca, Dark Eyes by M.R. Noble is an urban fantasy being published by a small publishing house in Canada (I think). The author sent me an advanced copy.
  • And, Fortune and Glory is a book I purchased. (mini review is at the bottom of this post)

As you can see by my stats and badges, NaNoWriMo is going well so far. I like doing a mix of writing and editing toward my goal. On the days when the creative juices aren’t flowing particularly well, I switch to editing and that usually gets them going again. Only 37,575 words to go!

I received badges for writing the first day, updating my writing progress, updating my progress twice in one day, and updating it two days in a row and three days in a row.

As a longtime reader of the Stephanie Plum series, I am in awe at this story’s longevity.

Stephanie Plum is one of my all-time favorite book characters. Her reckless choices fueled by her uncanny instincts and just general good luck keep me on the edge of my seat and often have me laughing out loud. It’s still funny every time she loses a car in some mundane or explosive way. And I envy her metabolism. What she eats in a day is just mind-blowing.

I love the non-stop action as Stephanie tries to apprehend one skip after another. For those of you who have never read a book in the series, let’s say she never has an easy time getting her man. Ever. And the resulting action of her attempts keeps the pages turning and me in stitches.

I love, love, love the over-the-top characters, like Lula and Grandma Mazur. They are so colorful and so crazy that they are indeed a joy to read about. Don’t we all wish we had such funny characters in our lives?

The love triangle between Ranger, Stephanie, and Morelli is in desperate need of a definitive choice being made by one of the three characters. Stephanie needs to choose, and she is not going to do that unless one of them forces her to do so. It is starting to become stale even though I love all three involved.

If you love action and thrills and would enjoy that with a good dose of humor, the Stephanie Plum series is one that you will want to enjoy.

    Congratulations to your daughter on getting an offer! It’s tough times all around for employment because of Covid. I hadn’t read a Stephanie Plum novel, but as you noticed in my post I watched the movie. Good to know the books are way better than the movie. I’ll have to give it a shot even with a love triangle in play. Grandma Mazur was a hoot in the movie, too. 🙂

You must be so proud of her. 🙂 Your November TBR books look so good! The Awakening and Diamond City are books I’ve had my eye on and am looking forward to read too.       We are definitely proud parents 😊. I tried so hard to get an ARC of The Awakening but no luck. I have preordered it though. My library had Diamond City available as an ebook. Yay! I have the ARC of the next book, Shadow City, so I wanted to get caught up. Loved Diamond City. Highly recommend.❤️
