Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

You may have heard – Season 2 of The Mandalorian begins on Friday. And in honor of that, I have included my stuffed The Child from Build-A-Bear in the pictures. I put him through a grueling day of photo shoots but we came out on the other side of it just fine. ❤️

My reading week has been rapid, but I’ve discovered a series that I enjoy as much as I do Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series and that is saying A LOT. Black River and White Horse by Joss Sterling has a similar main character as Evanovich’s, and I just love having humor in hard-boiled mysteries.

I am currently reading Sherlock Holmes and The Ripper of Whitechapel in which Sherlock Holmes takes on Jack the Ripper. I’ve read a M.K. Wiseman book many months ago and enjoy her writing style. She has captured the tone and pacing of a Sherlock Holmes mystery very well in this book. So much fun!

Next, I will be reading a book for a The Write Reads blog tour – Second Cousin Once Removed by Kenneth Toppell. I haven’t heard that much about it but I think it sounds good and it is rather short, which looks really good right now 😊

I have been enjoying Emily in Paris on Netflix. Lily Collins is so cute….and so young. She makes the other women in the series look older than I’m sure they want to look in comparison.

I start NaNoWriMo on Sunday. Maybe I will actually get my fantasy novel finished this time 😳

Sherlock Holmes and the Ripper of Whitechapel by M.K. Wiseman

About This Book

  • Genre: Mystery
  • Publication Date : November 3, 2020
  • Print Length : 219 pages
  • Publisher : self-published

I am afraid that I, Sherlock Holmes, must act as my own chronicler in this singular case, that of the Whitechapel murders of 1888. For the way in which the affair was dropped upon my doorstep left me with little choice as to the contrary. Not twelve months prior, the siren’s call of quiet domesticity and married life had robbed me of Watson’s assistance as both partner and recorder of my cases. Thus, when detective inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard required a lead–any lead–I found myself forced to pursue Jack the Ripper alone and without the aid of my faithful friend. And all for the most damnedable of reasons:
Early on in my investigations, Dr. John H. Watson, formerly of 221b Baker Street, emerged as my prime suspect.

White Horse by Joss Sterling

About This Book

  • Genre: Mystery / Thriller
  • Print Length: 311 pages
  • Publisher: One More Chapter (Harper Collins)
  • Publication Date: October 30, 2020

A thrilling new whodunnit series, fast-paced and funny, featuring a detective as sharp as his suits and a heroine who’s trouble.

3000 years ago Iron Age people carved a White Horse on the Downs near Uffington Castle and now someone has dumped a body there. Laid out like a ceremonial killing, Detective Inspector Leo George isn’t convinced that the murder is what it appears.
He suspects the young female victim may have been a member of the Children of the White Horse, a secretive valley commune, but none of the cult members are talking. That is until he discovers his friend, Jess Bridges, is undercover in the commune, attempting to persuade a wayward young woman to leave the cult.
Leo is confronted by the fact that Jess is heading right into the heart of a mystery that has less to do with ancient gods than it does modern vices, and there is nothing old about spilling blood…

Henry Attkinson’s life as an attorney is slow, predictable, and lonely, given his divorce and his ex-wife’s custody of the kids. He recently took up geneology as a hobby to fill the time, but it doesn’t do much to spice up his mundane routine.
Until the day he prods at a dead end of one of the branches of his family tree. Who is this cousin Shelley, whom he’s never met or even heard of in years? Ignoring a warning to leave well enough alone, Henry still doesn’t find much in his deeper delve into the mystery—just a concerning criminal record for the man that finally convinces him to drop the matter. But Shelley is a man who doesn’t want to be found or even looked for. And now he knows someone has been looking.
Faster than he knows what’s hit him, Henry is propelled into sudden mayhem, receiving ominous threats, meeting mysterious strangers, and running for his life. Second Cousin Once Removed is a fast-paced, sweaty-palm thriller that will keep you hooked until the last page.

  1. Combining Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper is dangerous business. My Kindle won’t thank me, but that’s a must-read for sure.

  2. I’ve got The Mandalorian on my calendar for Friday – so excited! Your “child” is adorable and I’m still planning to get one of my own. There’s a Build-a-Bear not too far from here. Happy Reading, Tessa!

  3. YES for the child! That is such a cute version! I have him on my pop socket always keeping me company and I cannot wait until Friday!

I’m so happy you’re enjoying Stephanie Plum! I took a different Janet Evanovich book on a plane once and this woman stopped me and raved about the series and I was such a huge fan (until around book 18….). I love when strangers give winning book advice.

  4. All of the books sound good, but I’m especially drawn to the Sherlock Holmes novel. Another that sounds suited for my TBR.

I love the posing Baby Yoda did. I don’t have Disney+ so I’m one of the few people who’ve yet to see the Mandalorian. One of these days, I’ll rectify that.

So glad you’re doing NaNo. I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll both “win” this year!

I started reading The Shadows by Alex North last night and am already 100 pages into it. Riveting and strange.

  5. I love your book presentations, with the Build a Bear Child, etc. And I also enjoy detectives with humor, so I’m curious about this new series you have been reading.

    1. I really enjoyed it. I’m getting ready to do a book club thing that the publisher runs for the first book – Black River. It should be interesting.
