The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Question:

Do you read paranormal romances?
If so, what is your favorite thing about the genre?

(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Answer:

I had an overdecorated-Christmas-tree kind of fun with this week’s post, so just bear with me and (hopefully) enjoy 👻

I would argue that the characters in this series are paranormal in
the truest sense of the definition and I ❤️LOVE❤️ the romance.

I do not read a lot of romances anymore, paranormal or otherwise. Even romcoms that are more romance than comedy lose me. But I do like paranormal suspense and many fantasies have paranormal characters who end up romantically involved. I’m all about that. My favorite thing about paranormal romances (not genre but as part of a fantasy story) is the paranormal/fantasy part and that you-and-me-against-all-evil thing that’s usually going on. As the Harry Potter stories taught us: there is no greater power than love.

“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all, those who live without love.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

“You would be protected by an ancient magic of which he knows, which he despises, and which he has always, therefore, underestimated – to his cost. I am speaking, of course, of the fact that your mother died to save you. She gave you a lingering protection he never expected, a protection that flows in your veins to this day. I put my trust, therefore, in your mother’s blood. I delivered you to her sister, her only remaining relative.”

Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix
My favorite ever paranormal romance scene! Does anyone else love this Casper movie? I usually feel alone in this but it doesn’t stop me from LOVING it ❤️

Now it’s your turn – do you read paranormal romance novels or other paranormal sub-genres? What do you like about it?

  1. I LOVE Casper! I remember that I spent an entire weekend with my radio held up to the TV, cassette tape loaded, trying to push RECORD at the perfect moment in order to capture this song on tape:

    Every now and then
    We find a special friend
    Who never lets us down
    Who understands it all
Reaches out each time you fall
You’re the best friend that I’ve found
    I know you can’t stay
A part of you will never ever go away
    Your heart will stay
I’ll make a wish for you
And hope it will come true
That life would just be kind
    To such a gentle mind
    If you lose your way
    Think back on yesterday
    Remember me this way
    Remember me this way

I STILL sing this song all of the time, haha.

    1. Lol. What a great memory. Those were the days, weren’t they? I say “can I keep you” to my husband, and the song definitely pops into my head way too much. I could never figure out why I was so enthralled with this movie but, really, I still am ❤️😍🥰❤️

  2. It’s been years since I’ve watched Casper – maybe it’s time for a re-watch. I don’t really read paranormal romance (but I adored The Silvered Serpents), but I also like the theme of we’re all in this together against the evil theme.

    1. We read and enjoy so many of the same books ❤️. Definitely time for a Casper rewatch. It is October, so I will be watching it for the thousandth time probably on Halloween 🎃

  3. I’m like you. I enjoy paranormal stories but I like them to be mystery, thriller, or suspense. If some of the characters end up in a romantic relationship, I have no problem with that, but I don’t want the romance to be the focus of the book.
And it’s been years and years since I saw Casper. This is the perfect time of year for a rewatch!

    1. Definitely, a perfect time. If romance is the focus, that’s just not enough to keep the pages turning. Now paranormal suspense, like your books – that works for me. I can’t put the book down when mystery, thrills or suspense are the focus ❤️

  4. I agree with you. I prefer to have romance in the stories I read but I don’t always enjoy those where the romance is the main/only focus, I prefer it as an accompaniment to the action/adventure/suspense of a plot.
