The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Question:

What draws you in more: the book’s title, the book’s cover, or the summary on the back cover?

(submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

Answer:

One particular thing doesn’t draw me to a book. It’s sort of a process. Initially it is the the author, and then cover and the title. If these grab my attention, then I turn the book over and see what the book is about. If I’m still intrigued but the author is new to me, I will read a few pages and see if the writing pulls me in. Needless to say, when Starbucks came to Barnes and Noble, I was in heaven. What better place to take a pile of books to decide whether to buy. I do the same digitally (I love samples).

What draws you in more?

    1. I can tell so much from the first few pages. It always amazes me how accurate I am about whether I’m going to like a book or not from those first 10-20 pages.

    1. For me, the covers only give me a clue as to the genre. Don’t get me wrong, I love a beautiful cover but I’d never purchase a book based on it. I’ve also found that when the cover doesn’t reflect the genre, it’s an indicator of whether I like the book or not. Totally correlational so far but interesting.

  1. Covers can make me look twice, but it’s usually an author who makes me want to read a book. Sometimes it’s hype too. I only read blurbs from author’s I haven’t read yet.

    1. Hype can be hard to resist sometimes but, yeah, the author means a lot to me too.

  2. I’m drawn by the author first, then the cover, and finally the blurb.
If I don’t know the author, the cover is definitely the main draw. I’m all about eye candy on the covers 🙂

  3. Love your answer and the graphic.

Not too many folks have mentioned the author as a draw, but that is an important reason.

    Thanks for sharing.
