The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. Question:
Do you read books by authors from outside your country? Any book recommendations?
Also, if non-US/UK, could you name one author/book from your country?

Answer:
To answer the first question, I read many, many, many books by British authors, and some Scottish, Irish, Australian, and Canadian authors. But, I don’t believe that I read many books outside of US/UK/Australian/Canadian authors, mostly because I’m not bi-lingual and opportunity doesn’t usually bring authors outside of English speaking countries to my attention.
That being said, there have been 2 Danish authors in the last year or so that I have read and reviewed. Jesper Stein with his hard-boiled mystery, Die For Me and Kenneth B. Andersen with his fantasy series, The Devil’s Apprentice. Both were very good and I can whole-heartedly recommend.
There may be more, and I just didn’t realize they were from a country outside the ones mentioned. Unless the book is part of a blog tour, I don’t always see author information aside from the name.

This is such a great topic, I usually love it when there is attention for non-originally-English novels.
I am Dutch but since I read almost exclusively English now, I don’t read a lot of Dutch books anymore…

I read a LOT of books by UK authors (love my British crime fiction!), Canadian and some Aussie authors. Some notables are Val McDermid, Sharon Bolton, Anna Campbell, Carol Shields, Shari Lapena, Joanna Goodman and Chevy Stevens.

Because I read indie published books, most are by US authors, though I do read fellow Brits, along with Aussie, NZ and Canadian. I’ve beta read for a french author, though the book was written in English and my role was to check word usage etc.
Personally I prefer Aussie authors as they are the closest in language use to my English ear.

Sometimes I have trouble with U.K. and Australian for the same reason you enjoy them – I don’t understand the colloquialisms and become confused. I imagine for people who don’t live in the US – US authors must pose the same issues.

I’ve always thought it was weird that they call tank style undershirts wife beaters. It has to do with American class distinction snobbery more than anything.
