Book Release | Liars and Thieves by D. Wallace Peach

My Thoughts

I am so excited to bring you information on D. Wallace Peach’s new book and series, today. I had a chance to read parts of this beautiful story, Liars and Thieves, as Diana shared them on her blog (a blog that I encourage you to follow if you are not already), and I have started reading the full story now that it’s out. What I have discovered is a wondrous world that delights and amazes at every turn of the page.

The characters are so vibrant and complex, though my favorite has to be Alue, with her “wildfire of red ringlets” and her “un-elfin freckles.” Strong females with red hair often become my favorite. Perhaps, it is because I see I connection between me and the character. Or maybe I just feel ginger-affinity. I also love how Diana introduces the main characters in the first chapter. This technique helped me to keep the characters straight from the very beginning.

The descriptions are sublime and bring the story to life in a way that I seldom experience. As I’ve been reading the story, this aspect has stood out to me the most. It is something you need to read and experience for yourself to understand how remarkable the descriptions genuinely are. I have provided a preview link at the end so you can get a taste for yourself of how Peach’s descriptive abilities envelope you, and draw you deeper into the story.

I also love all the different races introduced – goblins, elves, and changelings – and all their race-specific abilities. The terrakinetic ability, in particular, is intriguing to me, and I love how it is used in the story.

Liars and Thieves is a not-to-be-missed novel in a series shaping up to be one of my all-time favorites.

About Liars and Thieves

I had the opportunity to ask Diana:

Why are you releasing the whole trilogy within 60 days?

I’ve released all my series in tight timeframes because I tend to complete them that way. The main reason is continuity and consistency. Even though I’m a plotter, my characters make a lot of changes, and when dealing with magic, plot holes can run rampant. I’m constantly going back and forth, fixing issues and foreshadowing. So, in a way, the first book isn’t finished until the last one is done. It’s the way my brain works.

But that’s not the only reason. As a reader, I like to binge-read completed series. I get immersed in the world and characters and just like to keep going. If too much time passes, the old brain forgets the details – even little ones like the characters’ names!

Behind the Veil, the hordes gather, eager to savage the world. But Kalann il Drakk, First of Chaos, is untroubled by the shimmering wall that holds his beasts at bay. For if he cannot cleanse the land of life, the races will do it for him. All he needs is a spark to light the fire.

Three unlikely allies stand in his way.

A misfit elf plagued by failure—

When Elanalue Windthorn abandons her soldiers to hunt a goblin, she strays into forbidden territory.

A changeling who betrays his home—

Talin Raska is a talented liar, thief, and spy. He makes a fatal mistake—he falls for his mark.

A halfbreed goblin with deadly secrets—

Naj’ar is a loner with a talent he doesn’t understand and cannot control, one that threatens all he holds dear.

When the spark of Chaos ignites, miners go missing. But they won’t be the last to vanish. As the cycles of blame whirl through the Borderland, old animosities flare, accusations break bonds, and war looms.

Three outcasts, thrust into an alliance by fate, by oaths, and the churning gears of calamity, must learn the truth. For they hold the future of their world in their hands.

About the Author

D. Wallace Peach started writing later in life after the kids were grown and a move left her with hours to fill. Years of working in business surrendered to a full-time indulgence in the imaginative world of books, and when she started writing, she was instantly hooked. Diana lives in a log cabin amongst the tall evergreens and emerald moss of Oregon’s rainforest with her husband, two dogs, bats, owls, and the occasional family of coyotes.

  1. I love high fantasy! And think it’s cool that the trilogy will be released in quick order. I admit I have stopped reading series because it took too long in between books and I forgot about them.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by Tessa’s to check out the book. I’ve stopped reading series for the same reason. Not that I didn’t like them, but if a year passes, I’m already on to a new reading adventure and forget about them! Have a great week and Happy Reading. 😀

      1. Same here! And then when I want to go back and read them, sometimes I forget what book I left at. Like I loved the Gone series but cannot remember what book I’m at! Thanks you too! 🙂

  3. Great reasons for publishing the entire series, Diana. I’m trying that for the last two books in my Dawn of Humanity trilogy. It’s a challenge to write so much, innit!

Congrats on the release of Liars and Thieves.

    1. I hope it works for you, Jacqui. I’ve found it essential in the overall story construction. And I think some readers keep reading, especially those leisurely readers who might pick up the first book through a promotion or happen upon the first book through browsing. And you’re right about the downside – that much writing/editing seems endless when doing it in one giant glob. Lol. Discipline is key and it seems you have plenty of that! Thanks for stopping by Tessa’s today. Happy Labor Day Writing, my friend. 🙂

  4. Wow fantastic review. I have seen this author in the blogosphere but haven’t managed to read.
I generally don’t read series as I can’t seem to wait and then I forget the first book by the time second releases.

    2. Hi Shalini. I follow your reviews regularly. I get most of my reading recommendations from bloggers like you and Tessa.
I can relate to that difficulty waiting for series to finish. I get impatient and also tend to forget! So I try not to do that to my readers. All three books of this series will be out by the end of October. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by and Happy Reading! Take care.
