Book Blogger Hop | How much book detail recall do I have?

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Question:

If you haven’t read a book in awhile and someone asks about a character or the plot, can you recall the details?

Answer:

I read so much that sometimes, more often than I will ever admit, the details blend and merge with each other, especially with books of the same genre. That’s why I write my reviews very soon after finishing the book and usually wait to start my next read until I have the rough draft of my review done. It ensures my reviews are based on clear and genuine thoughts and feelings on that particular book.

So my answer is SOMETIMES. I occasionally have complete recall but, more often than not, a person would need to give me some tidbits to jog my memory in order for me to answer a question about a character or the plot. ❤️

    I find the majority of books I can’t recall too many details from for very long after I’ve read them unless they’re a favourite/5 star read.

    Love the tulips in your photos, they’ve made me want to buy some fresh flowers next time I’m out – have a great weekend 🙂

      My husband surprised me with the tulips, just one random day ❤️ I love that he still does things like that even though we’ve been married forever.
      I think when you read a lot, to keep all of those details at an easily accessible spot in your brain is impossible.

    I should have waited and just copied your post because the same is exactly true for me. I also can’t start reading a new book until I’ve written my review of my previous read.

      I’m glad I’m not alone in that. I know I see people talk about having finished a book a while back but needing to write up the review for a blog tour coming up the next day and it just makes me anxious to think about doing that. I would have no clue.

        I know some people make copious notes to use in a review as they read. I’m too much in the story for that – unless it’s a 1 star and then I don’t want to remember it at all!

          Me too. I make brief digital notes if I have a good thought and highlight – all in kindle – but mostly I just enjoy the story ❤️

    Same here. I’ll start reading a sequel to a book I read a couple years ago and won’t remember much at all, until the author mentions some detail that brings everything back. I’m a big fan of brief summaries of previous books at the beginning. Jay Kristoff does a fantastic job with that.

    Usually, I forget the details within days, Tessa. Lol. So, I also have to write reviews immediately. That’s one of the reasons that I like to read completed series in one long binge. Otherwise, I forget the details (and characters and what happened!) between the releases. Happy Reading!

    I find if someone asks about a book I’ve read then my mind goes blank and I can’t remember anything about it. But otherwise I remember things vaguely, but can never remember names of characters 🤦🏽‍♀️I always try to write rough notes for my reviews straight after finishing a book if I can 🙂

    I am the same way…sometimes I remember details, and other times (especially when I read numerous books in the same genre) things are more of a blur. If a book really makes an impression on me I am more likely to remember the intricate weaving of plot and details. Often, however, (especially with books I haven’t read in years), it is the setting that lingers in my mind.

      I can see setting lingering. Generally speaking, I remember the setting more so than character names and such.

    Ah, see… this is where being mildly dyslexic helps me. I retain a whole lot from the books I read, because I read them so slowly!

        Mind you, the drawbacks include not being able to read fast enough to join in on blog tours, or to do any buddy reading, or to take part in any book clubs.

    I’m the same! I like to have a review drafted before I start my next book so I can get my thoughts on paper. And my memory of a book ultimately depends on how I felt about it – I certainly remember more about the books I loved than the ones that are just okay.

    I TOTALLY get that! That’s why I always make notes as I go. I don’t think I’d be able to write in-depth reviews without those little bits of reflections that I sprinkle here and there throughout the novel! 🤣

    Everything just goes from one book to the other. I generally don’t remember anything about the book the next day unless I have cried. I read a book yesterday, trying so hard to retain details about the book to write review due. Ah well. Sometimes the blurb helps me recollect
