His & Hers is a dark and twisty story told by Jack Harper(his) and his ex-wife, Anna Andrews (hers). Full of suspense and surprises, the story unfolds slowly and methodically in a way that lulls you into a false sense of security until another person is found dead. Then the rug is pulled out from under you.

What I Loved

The narration is spot-on. It can be confusing if you must leave off in the middle of a chapter because the voices are not distinct, but the two narrators are imperative for the telling of this story, so that is easily forgiven. Anna is the main character, as the back story is mostly hers to tell; however, Jack plays a critical support role and can fill in the gaps. Anna is a very intricately developed character that is full of flaws and missteps. And though the support characters are not as well developed, they are as fleshed out as the plot allows without giving away the truths behind the secrets too soon.

I loved that this is a story about secrets, lies, and the systematic and planned unfolding of the truth. Truths, once revealed, twist and turn your thoughts until you cry “uncle,” but then the story keeps going to take the dark deliciousness to unspeakable heights. As much as I love this, it also makes a review of substance exceedingly tricky, since I always strive to avoid all spoilers. And there are so many potential spoilers, which is useful in a sense because it speaks to the amount of fun you will have reading this story.

I loved the short chapters as it keeps the story at a fast pace that is matched by what is going on. The novel took me to the past and back to the present at a wickedly enticing speed, and both stories are thoroughly engrossing. At no point did I note a lull in the story, and I love it when a book keeps me on my toes from start to finish.

      Thank you! I don’t know who the narrator is but I would imagine it would be very good in the audiobook format.

      The levels of suspense were amazing! This was my first time reading Feeney, but hopefully not my last. I will have to put Sometimes I Lie on my TBR 💕

    I remember seeing this one somewhere – probably on your WWW. I remember that line about him being a suspect in his own murder investigation and how it grabbed me. Nice review, Tessa!

      If you like audiobooks, then I think this one should be extra creepy in that format. Not sure about the technical stuff like the narrator, though. It is definitely your type of book! ❤️
