WWW Wednesday | Books I’m Reading during the Third Week of July 2020

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

I have three wonderful reads again this week, in another week of a wide variety of genres. Maybe you will see something you have read or want to read. Let me know in the comments or tell me about a book you are reading now (or your WWW post, if you have one).

Currently Reading

Meet Hannah Thompson: wife, mother, teacher and… secret erotica author?
My Guilt List:
1. If we have a date night then I’m always asleep before it’s halfway through and honestly, if I had to choose, I’d rather have a hot bath and read my book than engage in any other nocturnal activity.
2. If we do actually have you-know-what then it’s not unheard of for my mind to wander… and I’m not talking about sexy things – I’m talking about what food there is in the fridge and when the car is due for its next service.
3. I am struggling to write about anything that could be classed as even a little bit sexually adventurous which is a problem when I’m supposed to be an erotica writer and I am speaking at Sex Con in exactly one month.
With a book to publicise, Hannah has no choice but trade her M&S cardis for S&M parties, and become her writing alter-ego. What could possibly go wrong…

My Thoughts

I’m just starting it today because I had an unexpected addition to my reading/reviewing plate last week (see “Just Finished” section). I am still in love with the title and description, and I hope Faking It is as good as I think it will be.

Just Finished

Investigating the killing of a prisoner during a riot inside a state penitentiary, GBI investigator Will Trent is confronted with disturbing information. One of the inmates claims that he is innocent of a brutal attack for which he has always been the prime suspect. The man insists that he was framed by a corrupt law enforcement team led by Jeffrey Tolliver and that the real culprit is still out there—a serial killer who has systematically been preying on women across the state for years. If Will reopens the investigation and implicates the dead police officer with a hero’s reputation of wrongdoing, the opportunistic convict is willing to provide the information GBI needs about the riot murder.
Only days ago, another young woman was viciously murdered in a state park in northern Georgia. Is it a fluke, or could there be a serial killer on the loose?
As Will Trent digs into both crimes it becomes clear that he must solve the cold case in order to find the answer. Yet nearly a decade has passed—time for memories to fade, witnesses to vanish, evidence to disappear, and lies to become truth. But Will can’t crack either mystery without the help of the one person he doesn’t want involved: his girlfriend and Jeffrey Tolliver’s widow, medical examiner Sara Linton. When the past and present begin to collide, Will realizes that everything he values is at stake . . .

Genre: Thriller

My Thoughts

I received an invitation, last week, to a junket featuring Karin Slaughter where she will talk about The Silent Wife. I told the publisher that I would love to attend, but that I did think it would make more sense if I read the book first, so they sent me the widget. It is a hefty book- close to 500 pages – and, wow!, what a story. I can’t wait to hear what she has to say about it and my goal is to incorporate her talk into my review.

Reading Next

The Mantle dividing Elsira and Lagrimar has fallen. As the two kingdoms struggle to unify, one threat stands above them all.

As desperate Lagrimari flee their barren land for a chance at a better life in Elsira, a shadowy group with ties to the Elsiran government launches an attack on their own soil. With threats of more violence, an unlikely crew is assembled to investigate. Among them are Lizvette Nirall, a disgraced socialite seeking redemption for past mistakes, and Tai Summerhawk, a foreign smuggler determined to keep a promise he made to a dead man.

It’s a race against time in this world of deadly magic, secret agendas and court intrigue to discover those responsible before the next assault. And in another land a new enemy awakens—one that will strike terror into the hearts of gods and men.

My Thoughts

I’m still debating reading this book until I read the other two. I am on the waitlist for the ebook of book 1 through my local library but they only have physical copies of book 2 so, if I like book 1, I may buy book 2 and then read the ARC of book 3. I won’t do reviews for all three books. I’ll just bring in thoughts about 1 and 2 when doing the review for Cry of Metal and Bone.

What are you reading this week?

  1. Cry of Metal and Bone appeals to me, Tessa (nice cover too), but I would HAVE to read them in order, or I’d have a meltdown. Lol. The Silent Wife sounds good, though 500 pages is intimidating since my attention span isn’t cooperating these days. Happy Reading!
