Book Blogger Hop | Social Media and Book Blogs

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

Question:

What social media sites do you visit? Please leave your links so we can follow.

Answer:

I am on Twitter and Instagram. On Twitter, I am @TPulyer and on Instagram, you can find me @TessaTalksBooks

I started my Twitter account first, around the same time as I started the blog, and for about a year, I really focused on gaining a follower base. It is actually a lot of work, participating in follow trains, participating weekly in a 7am writers group (which ended changing times), learning to manage followers (I use an app to keep me on top of changes), chat, chat, and chatting some more. Once I reached 5,000 followers, I stopped actively working at it and now it is just growing naturally.

Then, I started an Instagram account last fall. I have been letting my follower base happen naturally with Instagram too. I am almost at 800 followers, and I should be at 1000 before summer ends. Taking pictures can be a lot of work, but I enjoy the creativity behind it and being able to use that part of my brain.

Just because I like to have a picture with my posts :). I am particularly proud of the one with my cat in it because those books form a haiku – a pretty good one too (my daughter took on the task when I told her my idea, so the credit is all hers)

I do not use Facebook in conjunction with my blog. I just have a personal account that is locked up tight to prevent my students from finding it. Explaining to them that it is unethical for a counselor to friend a student on a personal account is difficult for them to understand. So I just make it hard to find. Instagram keeps making me a Tessa Talks Books Facebook account, though, and I keep deleting it – minor frustration.

So, what about you? What social media sites do you like best and why?

  1. I enjoy both Twitter and Instagram but I’ve been really lax with the latter for months now. And Twitter I go hot and cold with. I really do enjoy it, I just need to work in the time to devote to it.
I’ve never been a fan of Facebook and closed my account almost two years ago. I just wish I had more time to devote to Social Media.
And although it isn’t as much a social platform as the others, I really love Book Bub.

    1. Social media is a time sucker for sure. I am really bad at spending the time I should on it. I’m too busy reading. 🤣
I’ve posted reviews on BookBub but I haven’t really looked at the social platform aspect of it. Maybe I’ll have to take a closer look.

    1. I just take what I hope are pretty pictures and then harass my daughters with questions if there is something I don’t understand ❤️

  2. Hi Tessa, I think I’m already following you everywhere.
Love your photos on IG, I’m not that talented or patient to learn. lol! I had the same problems with IG so I created a FB page for my blog. I’m not a huge IG user, Twitter is my go-to platform.

    1. Thank you! Photography has been a hobby of mine of and on for years. I’d be lost without my daughters’ help with some of the finer details of IG but mostly I just float along. Lol.

  3. Facebook wants you. I have a Facebook page and account but on my mother’s name so none of my friends are on it. Twitter is slow going. I have no idea about trains and 7am things. Insta is a sloth. I don’t post much, it too doesn’t like me much. We barely tolerate each other
