I’m trying out some beach-inspired photos today. I wanted to see what I could accomplish indoors. I still have some kinks to work out, but these are only my first attempt. I will get there.

I may take a field trip with my iPad and some props to a little beach that has been created by the lake (that I live across the street from) for more authentic -type pictures. That is, when the weather is better. Instead of April showers bringing May flowers, we’ve had May showers bring June who-knows-what.

I’ve had a good reading week. All blog tour books – one from each of the blog tours that I participate in.

I’m excited for most of the books I have coming up this summer. I will be able to read a few of the books I actually bought and Harlequin Trade has a bunch of really great sounding mystery/thrillers coming out that I have ARCs for. They keep sending me widgets, and I have a hard time saying no to a widget.

And to add to my reads, One More Chapter Books – an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers – has invited me to their Facebook page for book bloggers where they provide…. you guessed it…widgets! It’s worse than NetGalley in a way, because there is no requesting. I truly am like a kid in a candy store.

Crossing in Time by D.L. Orton
SciFy/Dystopian

But it’s easier said than done, as success means losing him to a brainy, smart-mouthed bombshell (her younger self), and that’s a heartbreaker, save the world or not.

My Thoughts

I am about a third of the way through this story. It reads really fast, which I like, but I don’t know if I would consider it YA. The writing can be rather direct and even crude when talking about sex and the characters, at least in the first third, are adults – like my age adults or maybe older. That should change when she goes back in time but we’ll see if I think it’s YA at that point. Otherwise, it is completely compelling, fascinating, and action-packed – three things that I always enjoy.

My Thoughts

Summer in the City is a fresh story about a woman who writes cozy mysteries. It has a mystery in it because she looks for mysteries around her to fuel her creativity and ideas. It’s a romance too but not a sappy romance – a very contemporary one that is more direct and to the point. My only complaint is that it was told from both the guy’s and the girl’s perspective but they didn’t have distinct voices, making it very confusing at times. It didn’t help that the ARC I got from NetGalley was not formatted at all. So everything just ran together – dialogue, chapters, etc… that was very challenging for me to read.

My Thoughts

Another Psychological Thriller! I’m loving all these psyc thrillers that keep coming my way. I can’t wait to start this book. I’ve never read anything by Adele Parks so I’m curious what format this story will take – a slow build or a roller coaster ride from page 1. I look forward to finding out 😁

    That FB group sounds like a dream! Except possibly also a nightmare, because I’m having enough trouble keeping up as it is. :p Summer in the City sounds fascinating, but argh, sometimes Netgalley files are a complete nightmare!

    I really like your beach inspired photos. So perfect for reading.
    And, of course, you knew I’d be drawn to Lies, Lies, Lies. I’ll be looking forward to your review on that one.
    Right now I’m immersed in the Harry Dresden series (on book 6). I’ve got quite a ways to go yet. I’m not sure I’ll be able to read all of these back to back, without sneaking a few psychological thrillers in!

    Lies Lies Lies sounds good! I feel like I’m picky about my thrillers sometimes but in reality I feel like there’s so many different types of thrillers out there I still have to explore. Happy reading!

    I know how precious your time must be—and how many choices you have for ways to spend it. I so appreciate you taking the time to read an unknown author (with an “old” book, lol) and posting about it mid-read on your blog. 🙏

    (Oh, and it’s totally NOT YA 😳. Amazon keeps listing it there and I keep telling them not to. For a while, it was listed in “Humor”. OHG, you should have seen the reviews people left when they discovered I was no Mark Twain. 🙈Unfortunately, Amazon is not big on listening to indie authors, and the book keeps appearing in lists where it doesn’t belong. So sorry about that!)

      I am glad to know I was right about it not being YA. It does not read as one at all. I just finished it and wow! I love the story you have told. I have to admit I do have a thing for quantum physics and for love stories ❤️. Much success to you and the series!
