This week the topic is Superhero books. I love a good superhero story. I watch them on TV, at the movie theater, and read them in books. I always have, and I imagine that I always will. Superheroes bring justice to a crazy world. As I am writing this, I am watching Aquaman – so I guess that says it all.

#1 Wonder Woman Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

My daughter bought me this beautiful book for my birthday. Can’t wait to read it.

#2 Steelheart

I’ve heard so many good things about this story. It looks wonderful.

#3 Vicious by V.E. Schwab

All good superhero stories need an intriguing villain.

Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. In Vicious, V. E. Schwab brings to life a gritty comic-book-style world in vivid prose: a world where gaining superpowers doesn’t automatically lead to heroism, and a time when allegiances are called into question.

#4 Forging Hephaestus by Drew Hayes

I was drawn to this book because of the reference to Greek mythology in the title.

But when she’s captured trying to rob a vault that belongs to a secret guild of villains, she’s offered a hard choice: prove she has what it takes to join them or be eliminated.

Apprenticed to one of the world’s most powerful (and supposedly dead) villains, she is thrust into a strange world where the lines that divide superheroes and criminals are more complex than they seem. The education of a villain is not an easy one, and Tori will have to learn quickly if she wants to survive. On top of the peril she faces from her own teacher, there are also the capes and fellow apprentices to worry about, to say nothing of having to keep up a civilian cover.

Most dangerous of all, though, are those who loathe the guild’s very existence. Old grudges mean some are willing to go to any length to see the guild turned to ash, along with each one of its members. Even the lowly apprentices. 

#5 Catwoman Soul Stealer by Sarah J. Maas

Of all the super villains, Cat Woman is high on my list and when written about by Maas, I couldn’t resist.
