Book Description

If you get lost in a book, be sure you can find your way back . . .

Madeleine d’Leon doesn’t know where Edward came from. He is simply a character in her next book. But as she writes, he becomes all she can think about. His charm, his dark hair, his pen scratching out his latest literary novel . . .

Edward McGinnity can’t get Madeleine out of his mind—softly smiling, infectiously enthusiastic, and perfectly damaged. She will be the ideal heroine for his next book.

But who is the author and who is the creation? And as the lines start to blur, who is affected when a killer finally takes flesh?

After She Wrote Him is a wildly inventive twist on the murder mystery that takes readers on a journey filled with passion, obsession, and the emptiness left behind when the real world starts to fall away.

My Thoughts

This is a book that has been sitting on my NetGalley shelves for awhile now but it sounds so gloriously intriguing. Just the description blows my mind. From the first little bit I have read, I get the sense that this is a reading experience where you just have to let go and take it all in – not try to figure things out as they come.

Book Description

Now successfully running the Cockleberry Café and wishing to start a family herself, Rosa feels the time is right to let her inherited Corner Shop go. However, her benefactor left one important legal proviso: that the shop cannot be sold, only passed on to somebody who really deserves it.

Rosa is torn. How can she make such a huge decision? And will it be the right one? Once the news gets out and goes public, untrustworthy newcomers appear in the Bay . . . their motives uncertain. With the revelation of more secrets from Rosa’s family heritage, a new journey of unpredictable and life-changing events begins to unfold.

My Thoughts

I thought I would switch it up by taking on a different genre (rom-com), get to use some different review adjectives and have a good chuckle. Interestingly, the story was neither romantic nor funny to me, though it did have a few mystery plot lines running through it. I enjoyed those mysteries the most. My biggest problems with this story is that there is only telling, no showing. The series has gotten rave reviews, so maybe it’s just about my taste in books.

Book Description

The city of iRemember shimmers in the desert haze, watched over by the Bureau, a government agency that maintains control through memory surveillance and little pink pills made from the narcotic plant Tranquelle.

It looks like an oasis under its geodesic dome, but the city is under siege. ‘Off-Gridder’ insurgents are fighting to be forgotten.

Bureau Inspector Icara Swansong is on a mission to neutralise the threat. Her investigation leads her into iRemember’s secret underbelly, where she finds herself a fugitive from the very system she had vowed to protect. She has to learn new rules: trust no one. Behind every purple Tranquelle stalk lurk double-agents.

A sci-fi noir with a psychedelic twist, iRemember explores the power the past holds over us and the fragility of everything: what is, what once was, and what will be.

    1. It still intrigues me, and I’m in the middle of reading. Well, not the middle – about 20% in. The concept is mind-blowing. It reminds me of a fun house mirror, where you see reflection after reflection after reflection all while looking in the one mirror.
