Why I Am Thankful for NaNoWriMo and Other Aspects of my Bookish Life

Bookish (and not so Bookish) Thoughts, hosted by Bookishly Boisterous, is a chance for book bloggers to dabble in areas besides books (but those are welcome too). This month I plan on talking about my month of NaNoWriMo or what it’s like to write a book in 30 days.

I’m thankful for NaNoWriMo

I’m done! I did it! I came, I saw, I conquered. I’m doing a happy dance 🕺💃👯‍♀️. And, lucky for you, you can’t see it 🥳🙌

What’s next? I have at least 8 more scenes to write. Maybe more once I start editing. But that will be after the holidays. Today is Thanksgiving, and next month is Christmas. In between, is parties, volunteer work, travel, appointments, baking, and shopping, shopping, and then more shopping. Such a crazy busy time. But I’m thankful for it all. I am especially thankful for NaNoWriMo because without it, I can’t imagine I would have the rough draft of a novel…my novel…the fulfillment of a dream. ❤️

I’m Thankful for My Fluffy Reading & Writing Buddies

Beautiful Josie, who is a princess among cats. Part Maine Coon, she is big and fluffy and a perfect all-around buddy. She likes to be close but not in the middle of things, usually.

Sweet Theo, who is nothing short of a miracle cat. We saved an 8-week-old orange tabby from the animal shelter’s death row by some lucky twist of fate. He was flea infested, lice-infested, worm-infested, ear mite-infested, had ringworm, and a cold. To top it all off, he had tested FIV positive. My daughter and I both cried as I drove him directly from the animal shelter to our vet for help making him better. The vet took care of all the infestations and put him on antibiotics, but then we had an issue with him not eating or warming up to people’s contact. My heart still breaks just thinking back to that time 2.5 years ago. We all worked tirelessly to nurse him back to health and now look at him. He’s a fluffy boy, who loves to cuddle, gets excited about mealtime, and routinely brings us mice so that we will play with him. He loves to try and bury his food, and when he realizes there is nothing to hide it with, he dips his mice – one by one – in his water, then puts them on top of the food. Pure determination!

I am thankful for my fluffy buddies, as they bring me so much joy and always put a smile on my face.

I’m Thankful for Classic Literature

I’m thankful for the classics I studied on my way to earning my BA in English. They taught me how to be an active reader and a better writer.

I’m Thankful for The Thanksgiving Meal and My Family

Today my little family will be enjoying turkey, ham, stuffing, homemade macaroni & cheese, green beans with bacon and onions, and some kind of sweet potato concoction. For dessert, we will have pumpkin pie and chocolate cream pie. All of it gluten-free – which you wouldn’t realize unless you already knew.
I’m thankful for my wonderful family – two beautiful and determined daughters and a loving husband who supports me and encourages me to live out my dreams. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

There is so much to be thankful for. What a great gift Thanksgiving is if you take the time to remember those truly important things in your life.

  1. Congrats on surviving NaNo! That’s such an accomplishment in and of itself. Josie and Theo are gorgeous, and oh my gosh, Theo’s story is so sweet! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
