Top 5 Anticipated Novels Released in May

These are some of the books I’m looking forward to next month. Happy reading!

1. The Big Kahuna by Janet Evanovich

May 7, 2019 * 320 pages * G.P. Putnam’s Sons

The Big Kahuna

First Impressions: Full of Evanovich’s iconic situational comedy, this new novel featuring Fox & O’Hare is going to be one more laugh-out-loud story by the master of the genre.  This novel will provide a much-needed break from real life for readers – beginning with a flash mob organized by former criminal Nick Fox and taking us through his determination to be an influencer of social media influencers, which will inevitably lead to a crime that needs to be solved.  I am confident this novel will hit all the marks.

2. Cari Mora by Thomas Harris

May 21, 2019 * 320 pages * Grand Central Publishing

Cari Mora

First Impressions: The writer of Silence of the Lambs has reemerged after over a decade and brings us a novel that author JD Barker via Goodreads calls, “a spine-tingling, edge-of-your-seat ride.”  The publisher showing confidence in the book has ordered for release almost twice as many as any other reported releases in May (from Publisher’s Weekly’s publication calendar).  With these facts in mind and my enjoyment of Silence of the Lambs, I can truly say this is a must read.

The novel is about Cari Mora, a woman with a past who happens to be staying in a house where twenty-five million dollars in gold has been stashed.  As ruthless criminals who have been tracking the missing gold get closer, Cari Mora must dig deep to survive.

3. The Night Window by Dean Koontz

May 14, 2019 * 432 pages * Bantam

The Night Window

First Impressions: Based on the sample, this is a modern-techno-take on the classic The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell.  I finished the sample wishing that the novel was out now so I could finish what promised to be an experience I don’t want to miss. Dean Koontz does suspense to perfection and this novel promises to uphold his popularity in the genre.

4. The Stiehl Assassin by Terry Brooks

May 28, 2019 * 368 pages * Random House Publishing Group

The Stiehl Assassin

First Impressions:  The third book in the Fall of Shannara series by the writer of the popular Sword of Shannara series, this is the next to the last book in the grand conclusion of Shannara tales.  Fans will be eagerly awaiting this novel, and if you are new to the series, I would recommend starting it with The Black Elfstone. On Terry Brooks’ website, there is a reading order to help. Do know if you saw the TV show, The Shannara Chronicles, it did not do the books justice.

5. The Stone Circle by Elly Griffiths

May 7, 2019 (USA) * 384 pages * Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

The Stone Circle

First Impressions: There are a lot of characters to get to know and that was a bit confusing in just a sample but I will post a review of her latest novel, The Stranger Diaries, next Tuesday and, not to spoil it, I loved it!  So, I am looking forward to this novel as well.

**These books can be preordered from your favorite online book sellers or purchased at your local bookstore (on the release date).  April 27th was Independent Bookstore Day, so I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to purchase from your local bookstore. Happy Reading!!!

  1. An eclectic book line-up, Theresa. What fun. Cari Mora sounded the most interesting to me (cool cover too) though there are times when a good comedy does the trick. I’ll be looking for your reviews. 🙂
